I was recently admitted as a Columbia John Jay scholar and was wondering about the prestige/job opportunity/advising differences between CC JJ and Penn BFS. Penn has always been my top choice, but is John Jay worth it enough to sway my decision? I haven’t gotten into BFS yet (there’s an application process). Columbia also gave me a substantial grant compared to Penn’s financial aid. I can’t decide which school to choose, so if anyone has insight on this, I’d appreciate it 
I love CU and find that the CUSP program (which includes John Jay) is an excellent opportunity in terms of acquiring fairly generous regular summer funding for interships/independent projects and having great advising/professional opportunities that often arise. Some students don’t like the extra work involved in being a CUSP scholar (guest lecture attendance and weekly ungraded seminar freshman year).
Still, I don’t think John Jay in and of itself should sway you. I picked CU over several other ivies and competitive schools but it was due to my excitement about the excellent fit it would be for me, scholarship irregardless. The benefits of CUSP are just an additional bonus.
