How rare is that student gets a likely letter but doesn’t get acceptance?

In all my reading on CC and elsewhere I have yet to hear of a single likely that didn’t become official. Not that I’ve systematically read everything I could, but everyone seems to agree likely = certain. Of course, discovery of plagiarism or something like that would change things, but that would get an official acceptance rescinded also.

I got deferred ED, so not expecting a LL.

I do know two people who’ve gotten them. Both are asian - one was deferred by Yale and the other was deferred by MIT.

Good luck to all!

@lolToasty, I was also deferred by Yale EA! lol

@Wolfbrother
As a LL candidate who matriculated into columbia last year, I can safely say that LL is 99.9% acceptance (0.1% reserved for people who fail miserably for their midyear / commit murder/ etc…). I’ve never seen (or heard) anyone who didn’t get accepted after getting a LL email.

Got a likely letter yesterday; was deferred EA by Harvard lol.

It’s ridiculous how many of us deferrees from hyps got ll’s from columbia :l

I apologize if this was posted earlier in the thread, but does anyone know how many LLs Columbia sends out? I’ve seen 200-300 estimates for the other Ivies, it just seems oddly disproportionate that so many people received LLs here…

Most of the posts on this thread are from last year. I counted about 10 reports for LLs for this year.

^ there is another thread from this admissions cycle where other CC users claimed to have received a LL. So more than 10.

at least 2 pple from my school got LL (me being one of them) so…I’m guessing quite a few people got them

I barely saw that most of these were from last year… Damn cc app.
Well, it’s comforting to know only a few got an email

Sent from my SPH-D710 using CC

I got oneeee! :DDDDDD

SAT I (breakdown): First: 2380 superscored
SAT II: 800 Math lvl 2, 800 Biology, 800 Chemistry, 780 Physics
Unweighted GPA: 3.97 or something of that nature…I dont really focus much on Unweighted GPA
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1 out of 780
Senior Year Course Load: A Levels: Multivariable Calculus, English Lit AP, AP Environmental Science, Latin IV Vergil, AP Gov/Economics, Scientific Research and Design, Speech/Health
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Intel STS semifinalist, USABO/USNCO semifinalists, Physics Bowl 2nd place (TX,AZ, UT, NM), AIME 3x, Pretty good leadership in clubs and such, Volunteered about 300 hours, Have done pretty well at Science Olympiad and Science Bowl competitions.

Good luck to everyone applying to Columbia! :D
