Shoot. I’d been waiting to tell Columbia all about my favorite books, the galleries and performances I’d enjoyed over the past year, etc. Hopefully those kinds of questions will still be in the Columbia-specific supplement…

gee, this would have save A HECKUVA lot of time for me. :/

Yep, not only do I have to apply to college in the most competitive year so far, but Columbia decides to switch afterwards.

Well the college’s can still ask you anything extra that they want in their supplements. That’s where most of mine time was spent.

so you guys are saying 2011 might be the best year to apply to michigan because they won’t see a huge hike in apps till 2 years after and i don’t have to fill out that dreadful michigan app? i am so thankful because my common app essay is amazing.

UGH!!! Columbia switches this NEXT year!!! grumble grumble

I don’t understand why everyone is upset Columbia wasn’t using the Common App. The fact that the app was a pain (assuming you also applied to Common App schools) means that less people applied, so you had a better chance of getting in. Once they switch to the Common App (or, apparently, the year after they switch), it becomes much more competitive. That’s BAD for applicants.

LOL my reaction was the same as everyone else who applied to Columbia, but we are actually fortunate!!! Imagine the massive increase the next couple of years. Everyone who is a prestige whore will apply now since the app will be so easy.

Does anyone if this affects the transfer application for Columbia? I don’t know if this is good or bad- if I had to take a guess, I would say that more people would apply. But more and more people are applying to colleges every year anyways and high schools nationwide are forcing kids to take SATs/ACTs so I don’t know?

Haha, same qualms about Michigan changing the year after I applied…

Prepare to see Columbia’s acceptance rate dip to like 6%, folks…

For common app lovers, we are ALL unfortunate.

Just imagine 5-10 years down the road where practically every school is gonna be on the common app! (Except for rare few schools who know they can afford to demand a separate application, I guess).

aww i loved Columbia’s app too.

Had Columbia been on the Common App when I applied, I would have totally applied there.

As charlieharper said, UMich acceptance rate will drop by AT LEAST 10%. I would even say 20% if UMich successfully advertise.

I applied to both columbia and UMich this year I swore the whole time I worked on my app because they did not use common app…=[

Interested in how the international one will adapt the Common App form. Anybody have an idea?

Hi to all
i’m really sorry to interrupt your discussion.i know my post doesn’t juncture to this foroum but it’s important for me.

columbia’s application is a billion times better than the commonapp. Columbia’s just playing the numbers game. Now apart from the ones that truly love columbia they will also receive applications of prestige whor*s. Don’t blame them though… their acceptance rate which is already really low will become even lower. Sad for the coming years’ applicants.

has anyone heard from columbia?
