I just thought that others would find this interesting as its almost hidden on the Columbia website, very difficult to find, but as of this year, Columbia is no longer need-blind in admissions for Canadian and Mexican students:

For students applying to begin in the fall of 2011 as a first-year or transfer, citizens of Canada and Mexico are also considered under the need-blind policy.

Beginning with students enrolling in 2012, policies for Mexican and Canadian citizens will be made consistent with the need-aware policies for all foreign students.

I noticed that as well and only regret not having applied there last year (for I was a senior back then and am on my gap year now). Before seeing that, I was considering Columbia for Early decision but that policy change made my think twice. So I am just going to apply regular decision and hope that I will get accepted, even though is need-aware for me now (but hey, you never know, is still worth trying) So good luck to all of those Mexican and Canadians dealing with this new change.

So am I interpreting this right, the students applying to Columbia this year (as seniors) as Canadian and Mexican students will be in the need-aware pool of Columbia applicants?

Yes, Columbia is no longer need-blind for Mexicans and Canadians, who will be included in the need-aware pool with all other international students. It makes good sense, considering the current economic situation. Looks like I’ll be applying elsewhere.
