I would also like to offer my congratulations to everyone who got in.

If you got deferred and you are still in love with Columbia and willing to fight hard to get in, don't give up hope.

SoulOfHeaven8 made a very helpful post last year right after ED results about how he went from deferral to acceptance (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=16090). I personally also made it off the waitlist to Columbia, so things like this are possible (and if you look at my stats, they're not astounding or anything).

I would emphasize figuring out who your regional admissions officer is and contacting that person. If you have a good counselor, get him/her to check with admissions as well to see if they can shed any light on a reason for your decision. Sometimes, they will give you a reason (perhaps a vague reason, but better than nothing).

Good luck to all you deferred and RD applicants.

*Edit: Oh right, what ColumbiaMom is referring to is writing a letter to admissions reemphasizing your interest in the school. Focus it especially on why you feel the school is a good match for you and updates on accomplishments since you sent in your app. Don't make it longer than a page (IMHO).

Stay in touch with your regional adcom. Advise him/her (with copies to the admissions office) of any new accomplishments/achievements you have made since you applied. When my son was deferred last year, he sent a letter telling more about himself than space allowed on the application, listed new grades and told them that Columbia was still his first choice school. He also wrote a cute poem. You applied ED,so they know it was your first choice school and if you let them know that you will attend Columbia if admitted in the RD round, it should give you an edge. They are interested in admitting students that they know will attend. However, I wouldn't advise doing any of this until after mid January. Best to you.

I've been waiting for the result for long time..

Do they send the emails in orders like accepted first, deferred next and rejected last?

I am also waiting ....I still don't have mine. WHY???
