Not cool.
I am going to go completely neurotic...

we are all in the same boat.....my half yearly have started and i have nothing in mind except COLUMBIA COLUMBIA COLUMBIA!!!!! OMG if i am rejected or deferred my mid year school report to other colleges will suck big time.....guys plz help me out......i am getting sycotic!!!!!!

No, he means sighcotick.

^Lame, I know

Aaaanyway, why am I here you may ask? Well, I've been looking at people's "chance me" ED threads for a while, and considering the acceptance rate (last year was 22.5%) for the average applicant, and how above-average almost every single person who posted is, I'd be willing to bet that almost everybody here who applied will get in. So, basically, relax, guys!

Ignoring the average SAT, GPA rank, etc. (which most people surpassed with flying colors), the EC's, which have been said many times to be the deciding factors, are all so much stronger than what would be considered the "average applicant." If one day you're sitting here staring at the forums waiting for your DHL (reeeeeally hope I got the acronym right) package, I suggest reading this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/417278-ivy-league-admissions-difficulty-exaggerated.html

In short, if your SAT's are superb, your EC's CAN BE mundane. Now, obviously, if your SAT's aren't superb, you need better EC's. However, the majority of people here have WELL SURPASSED the average SAT, AND have extraordinary EC's. If you scored under the 25%-75% range, you may need to discover the cure for cancer to get in. However, the 75th percentile SAT for Columbia was 1980. And since 4 times the percentage of applicants are accepted from the ED pool than RD, the "SAT-Cancer-Cure" cut off" will be low. And even if it's not and I'm just being ignorant, most of you guys did find the cure! Figuratively of course.

Except for Maria's friend who got a Columbia tattoo. That's why he's getting one, duhhhhh.

The 75th percentile of Columbia was not 1980 -_-;

The 75th percentile at Columbia College is (according to CB): 2200
The 25th percentile at Columbia however, was 1980. (that means bottom 25%)

so i just read the stats of a puerto rican (resident of NJ) got into columbia ED, and my stats are very similar (SAT was a bit diff, so was GPA)... so i'm hoping that's a good thing. we're two different people though. so idk.

You knew what I meant... lol. Number 25 counting up, number 75 counting down.

Well, I've officially lost my mind... I can't believe that in 48 hours my life could change forever... I will share my little piece of advise to everyone else about how to read/open your admissions letter: do it while listening to one of your favorite songs, (I will be listening to "Hey Jude") so if you are rejected, then at least your ears will still be semi-happy.

great great song rszanto!!! great idea, i'll probably be listening either to the doors, the beatles, or simon and garfunkel ! we should make a pre-finding out playlist to calm ourselves.!!

oh gosh i have a pep rally thursday.. that i choreographed .. and i have to dance it. i hope it turns out well :/ .

I just assume I got deferred.....hoping for the best though.

That's a great idea;
Should I choose a sad song? I'm gonna cry either way(accepted/defered) and it will be kinda awkward to cry while listening to super-hyper-exciting song

me too actually Blaster.. i really think i did

we should really listen to calm music, not necessarily sad, but calm hehe

I like the music idea... But I would listen to something that is loud and fast. That way it doesn't let your mind react to the news either way for a while.

If you aren't sure, go with the excellent choice of "I Will Survive." Definitely do NOT pick a sad song, as you want a, "pick me up" not a "put me DOWN."

probably something josh groban for me..

Thank you GodfatherBob! You're the best :)

Maria, your mailbox is full, my AIM is on here, can't reply to your message on here :-(

I agree :D lmao

I would suggest David Bowie's "Changes" or Eric Clapton's "Change the World."
