Columbia or Stanford?!

I recommend going to Livejournal.com to the areyousmart community! It's great! It really answers a lot of questions, namely if you're smart.

Just to update.... I ended up choosing columbia. I visited Stanford and 1. the campus was certainly not as striking or magnificent as I thought it would be 2. the student body, while warm and affable, seemed very bland. columbia certainly has more of an 'edge' to it. the spacious campus and great weather were appealing, but ultimately I felt columbia will be a more stimulating and experience, mentally and socially.

Jaug -

You have it the opposite. This is why I am at Columbia for grad school. Cities cater to people in their twenties with IDs and money, not college kids. Grad school in NYC lets you be a part of the city. But an experience like stanford will never come again...

i like liberals! here's the thing, if you like surfing and beaches a lot a lot a lot, go to stanford. if you like skiing and jewish deli's, go to columbia. gooooo jews!

cold weather but cool people

quantifyme, congrats and welcome to the class of 2009 at Columbia University! When I applied ED to Columbia my other top choice was Stanford so I completely understand the decision you made.

Welcome once again! Hit me up on AIM at Teedoff101 and I would be happy to talk to ya!

"and we walk by psychologist Philip Zimbardo"

Ahhhhhhhh, i watched his videos in class!!!!!

my friend at school was in the exact same dilemma. columbia or stanford. she chose stanford ultimately because columbia was just way too far for her, and she didn't really like the campus or weather. (we're from southern california. 6.5+ hrs drive to stanford)

For political science, Columbia provides much more activism and political participation. I went to Stanford's Admit Weekend, and the ONLY signs of political activism i saw on campus were two posters about how "free trade is not free" and "rejecting IMF." Not a single person was interested in them (with the possible exception of those who put it up). Pretty pathetic activism, if you ask me!!!

Nevertheless, I love Stanford!
