Anyone else have their Columbia Phone Interview yet? I just had mine today!

I'm not exactly sure how it went though... with a pressing 20 min time frame I felt like we didn't have a very fluid conversation - more of listing stuff off.

I might interview a couple of applicants over the phone, protocol is for the interview, whether over the phone or in person, to be 45 mins, but length does not really correlate to success. your interviewer might just be really busy and give all his/her applicants a short interview.

Well, it was scheduled to be 20 minutes long. I got an email last week explaining that there is no active alum committee in my area, and that Columbia students would be administering phone interviews this week. I had to sign up for a date and a time, and they were all 20 minute time slots.

The guy that called me was a senior in Political Sci at Columbia. He seemed really nice, but we hardly conversed. It was more like, “Tell me about your EC’s” (me listing EC’s for 10 minutes) then “I have a couple more questions…” (me answering) then “Thanks, good luck with admissions, bye.” Boom, 20 minutes.

Admissions lets current Columbia students field phone interviews? Really?

i have not yet received notification regarding any type of interview from any private university that ive applied to…
i live in the new york city metropolitan area.
is this cause for concern?

^ If you applied to Princeton or Georgetown, it probably is…

i didnt…

admissions does let current students do phone interviews - it was a campaign that started maybe 4 or 5 years ago with doing interviews at boarding schools and grew to include doing phone interviews. it was a way to have more students receive interviews, and to pick up the slack in places where alums were few.

My phone interview lasted about 2 hours. Very long, I know but we ended up having an extensive conversation about our lives lol. I think it went pretty well.

was it one of the ones where you signed up for a time slot?

Danng now I feel like mine musta been bad.

To admissionsgeek: Yes, they do allow current students to conduct phone interviews. My interviewer was a senior at Columbia majoring in PoliSci, as I said.

read a bit closer xcgirl. it was pwoods who had the question, i was stating facts.

Just had my phone interview. The girl who was interviewing me was really nice and we had quite a few things in common. I think it went well. Hopefully she thought so too. (:
