Hi! I’m taking the columbia SHP exam this year and I was wondering what i should study for it. i HAVE seen the other threads but i was wondering if anyone who took it in 2015 could tell me about it? I have a year of honors bio, regular chem, honors geometry, and honors algebra 2 (taking CURRENTLY). i also take anatomy. i heard there is physics on it but does anyone have general tips for studying and which parts were the hardest? Thank you!!! ps sorry this isnt a summer program i couldnt find an appropriate forum lol
i don’t remember any specific questions but I was accepted as a freshman. You at least have some chem knowledge; I had taken an intro physics class, bio, precalc, and that was it.
the hardest parts for me were the math (the hard math) that’s basically AMC level…I’m not the best at competition math and have always done poorly on it. I studied some old AMC problems basically. The regular math section is pretty easy and you being in alg 2 should be good enough.
most people say the entry exam is everything; I think it’s important, but you shouldn’t discredit grades, essay, classes…i’m not the smartest person ever, but I had 2 100s out of 3 science/math classes and a more creative essay. i guess being in precalc as a freshman also was beneficial.
don’t stress; review your chem and bio notes, do some AMC…that’s all you really have to do. I only studied the night before, just some AMC and chemistry because I was only in bio and knew nothing. I don’t remember much physics or challenge chemistry; there were some moh problems or something that I solved with no chemistry background except a few Khan Academy videos.
Good luck!!
THANK YOU!!!
What happens if Columbia receives your transcript of your grades late. Will they deny your admission to take the entrance exam? I made a really careless mistake and informed my guidance counselor yesterday the address to mail it ( even though I promised I would give it to him a week before I actually gave him it). Totally my fault, I admit. But what are my chances of getting in if they get it after the deadline?
