Columbia self-guided tour

We're visiting Columbia during its Spring Break. Consequently, there won't be a tour following the info session.

Do any of you have any tips on conducting a self-guided tour? Anything we should do specifically - like what to see, etc?

Depends on what you're interested. There are a lot of places you can't get into without a CU ID, so you'll be looking at some things only from the outside, like Butler Library and Dodge Fitness Center.

you cant get into the freshman dorms either....you wont see very much of anything that would help you make a decision about whether or not you like columbia. You should try very hard to look for a freshman who will be around during spring break who can get you into the dorms. Alternatively you can come here and stand at the enterance of the dorms and try to solicit a freshman to show you around their dorm. The freshman dorms are John Jay, Carman, Furnald and Hartley/Walach....John Jay/Hartley/Wallach are all connected internally so you would only need to be signed into one to see all three. Other than that, the fitness center is unimpressive, everyone will tell you that, it is really small compared to other college gyms, even NYU's. The library is gorgeous and has lots of books and tables to study on....nothing really interresting there.

How big is the Columbia pool and the track?

watch out for the squirrels!!

Too bad I'm no longer on campus or I'd offer you a personal guided tour. I guarantee it would be about 10 to 20 times better than the 'official' tour.

speaking of which, if anyone's willing to give a guided tour, that'd be awesome. e.g. if you're bored and have nothing to do over spring break, spare 30 mins or so..and educate a (potentially) future Columbian.

pm me for details.

I'm sure you can find someone to give you a tour.

too lazy to pm you but i should be back on campus some time thursday if you want but dont know how good a tour i could give...
