Hi! I am currently a freshman in high school. I am taking the Columbia Science Honors Program entrance exam in the summer and I have questions. I am not that great at math because I am now in Algebra 1 Enriched going on to Geometry honors in sophomore year. For science, I am in honors bio, but next year I am taking AP bio, Chem honors, and the in school science honors program. I am just wondering what do you think my chances are from your perspective? And how is the examination overall?
Dw, its great that youre applying as a freshman. (So did i!) They are much more lenient with freshman applicants bc they know that they have not covered as much material. There will be a section of the test with all mixed science questions, and dw, i took honors bio in ninth too and knew none of the other subjects, just guess your way through it (guess carefully tho, the program knows you dont know the material but also wants to measure your potential to think outside the box and use reason ) Then, there is a short math question that are simlar to amc/mathcounts like questions. I cant remember whether or not there is a more basic math question. The harder math section is hard, but dont worry if youre only able to answer a few. The entire test is mult. Choice. Im currently in the program and its pretty cool, hope you get in!
thank you so much! I just took it yesterday and it was not as bad as i thought. On the last section (the harder math), everyone answered 7 to 8 questions out of the 15. I carefully guessed all 15! dont know if that was a good idea or not. I guess i’ll find out soon haha
When should you consider This program? During junior Year or Senior? My daughter is sophomore.
I took this test a couple days ago and I am a freshman. The Columbia SHP program is for grades 9-11, so I would recommend her doing the examination her junior year since the application deadline has passed. You can find more information at this website: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/shp/apply.html
My twin daughters are sophomor and considering this program… How is the work load and what are the expectations?
