The Columbia Science Honors Program entrance exam is next week, and I just wish to know what exactly is on the test, what do I need to know, and what should I study. Thank you for any help.

there is a math, science, and a challenge math section. All are multiple choice. THe math section is very easy, basic stuff. The science section is easy too...there is earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics, but basic problems. The challenge math section (15 questions) is hard, maybe like amc level. If you want to study, just go over the science stuff, but its basic. Good luck.

lol. I forgot to hand in my applications. You can still apply junior year right?

Can you elaborate on what kind of Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and Bio materials are covered? It has been a long time since I studied three of the four...

Do we get a calculator? (j/w, without it I am generally incapacitated [is that word?]) anyway, yea. you can apply junior year. i'm a junior.

do you know anyone who's made it/ do you need to be a psychogenius?

I made it last year...and no, definitely not. The test isnt that hard. The math/science sections are like sat II below level I remember... The only part that was kind of hard was the challenge math questions..those questions were like those on the amc or local math competitions..I guess that is what mainly seperates the people who get in and don't get in.

For chemistry....I remember simple concept questions with titrations, atomic structure, redox...very similar to SAT II or easier I think. Earth Science..its stuff you learned in Regents Earth science (if you're from NY), nothing harder. Same with bio. There weren't many physics problems and you can solve alot of them with common sense/basic math (I didn't take physics yet when I took the test). If you paid attention in your classes, you would have no problem doing well on the test. As for calculators...I don't think you're allowed to use them but I'm not sure. Good luck.

Ok, that doesn't sound too bad. I t hink i'll just review chem because even though i did well on the sat II, that stuff is pretty boring and not exactly something you want to stay in your brain.

what classes do you take there? how are they?

hey guys
i am going to take the science honors program enterance exam and i really need to know what i should study. i am in ninth grade and so havent been exposed 2 many science or math classes. i have taken bio and earch sci and started math b this year if anyone has any books, websites, or anything else that can help me it would be extremely helpful. i also need some clearification on SAT 1 and 2...whats the difference which one should i b studing basically i dont know what either is so any help at all would be extremely helpful should i focus more on sci or math? thanx

I took immunology last semester and am taking neurobiology this semester. I certainly learned many things and the instructors, although mostly grad students, are pretty good. It's nothing like learning at school though..it's an enrichment class so don't expect the shp courses to subsitute anything at school. They don't have tests or anything of that sort; you probably won't gain a strong foundation in whatever field the class is on, but you will be exposed to many things not learned in the classroom. Plus, you can talk to the grad students about their research and learn from them.
