...at sports. Would this FACT, make it easier for one to be recruited? Im pretty good at basketball, probably not UK or KU level but I'm pretty good. How hard is it to become recruited?

Hard. Extremely hard

^^Looks like someone is trying to boost their post count. Legit answers please.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but it’s possible that the reason Columbia’s athletics are comparatively lackluster is that they don’t really focus on them. If they don’t really focus on them, then yes, it would probably be difficult to get recruited there. Worth a shot, though (no pun intended).

^^You think he’s inflating his post count? You’re the one who baited the forum with that incredibly deceptive headline!

lolwth? Aren’t you a regular on AutoDing? And you’re a high school student?

^AutoDing?

Look on older posts on D1 sports (Columbia is D1). From everything I’ve seen posted there you have to be insanely good to get recruited.

^yep. just because columbia’s athletics aren’t top notch, it doesn’t mean the athletes are not very talented. how old are you? if you are applying to college in the within the next year or so, you’d already know if you’d be able to be recruited

^I never said they weren’t talented. I’m a soon to be sophomore btw. I’m sorry if I offended anyone when I said Columbia isn’t the best at sports. Columbia isn’t a basketball D-1 powerhouse like Duke for example, I was just wondering if it was possible to get recruited even if I’m not NBA material. Sorry…

It’s still D1, kid. If you’re good enough to play D1 ball, the process sort of unfolds for you. Your phone will ring, your coach’s phone will ring, etc. You don’t really need to ask a lot of questions until that time.

In the meantime, fill out recruiting forms on Columbia’s site. Put together a reel. Wait.

^ Well you said they suck which no matter how you cut it it is offensive to players that play there. Just watch what you say and realize people will be upset if you say mean things like they suck. You could have written, Columbia’s basketball program isn’t the best, is it easy to get recruited if you aren’t the best. That would be fine, what you said was kind of mean.

first off, eff you for saying we suck lmao. I wrestle at Columbia University. Btw, our team is pretty good and there are some really good teams here as well. As far as being recruited goes, the big name schools are going to recruit all of the big name athletes. And the lower tier schools are gonna scrape up what’s less. basically what i’m saying is it’s easier to get recruited by Columbia than say Ohio State. But it is, in no way, shape or form, easy. There are still thousands of talented athletes out there even after Ohio State, Texas, Florida, etc. sign the best ones. I placed 3rd in my state in wrestling and placed 7th at a national tournament in north carolina. The main thing you have to remember is to SEND IN QUESTIONNAIRES. If the coaches don’t know who you are, they can’t recruit you. And they won’t know who you are unless you play for a state championship team, ya digg?

One reason Columbia, and many other ivies, are not stellar at sports is because
- they don’t offer scholarships to athletes, like many other colleges (majority of colleges) do
- they expect their athletes to be able to do well academically in the respective schools, and thus athletes must meet a certain academic criteria in order to be recruited (something like athletes can’t be more than one standard deviation away from the average class “score”)

Stanford is a top notch college, and their sports are really good for an academically renowned college, but they don’t meet one of the standards above that ivy leagues follow (I forgot which, but probably 2nd one)

With that being said, it is still extremely hard to be recruited in any sport. Usually, if you really want to catch the eye of a coach, you prob should have some kind of recognition (all state, all american, MVP, etc.). A lot of times, it’s also a bit of luck…even if you’re the best point guard in the state, if Columbia at the time already has 4 extremely competent point guards, then you’re out of luck.

anyways, GL

Haha thanks for the help. When I said Columbia sucks, it was meant to grab attention to the thread. When I wrote it, I was thinking Columbia students would look at it expecting me to compare it to Harvard or something. And I was only talking about Basketball and Football BTW, sorry I don’t know much about Wrestling .
