I already started to read my own copy of the Iliad, but I'm not sure how intensively I should be reading it to prepare for Lit Hum. Any suggestions from current/past students? And will we be expected to recognize quotes & the characters they are said by?

Thanks

Don’t worry too much about the summer assignment. Most people probably won’t start it till orientation and not pay too much attention to it. In fact, unless you have a photographic memory, starting this early is a waste of time because you’ll just forget what you’ve read. No professor’s going to quiz you on the first day of class. Eventually you’ll have to be able to recognize important passages/quotations and their respective speakers (definitely for the department-wide final and probably for your class midterm), but these passages will probably be ones you discuss in class/the really important ones. Honestly, just enjoy your summer for now.

when did you receive your copy of the Iliad (assuming it’s the one mailed to you by Columbia, for free)?

He said he’s reading his own copy of the Iliad, Epa.

That’s what I thought. They usually mail the iliad sometime in August, right?

but yeah, the Iliad is a fascinating read. Glad to be reading it for the third time lol
