Do the internship. Experience beats paying a premium for sitting in a classroom.

If you want to transfer to a US college, the summer program is probably better.

Internship will help more if you plan on staying at DU and going abroad for your masters.

Now, being a prospective freshman, I am not qualified to say anything definitive, however … is the summer program for college students? If yes, and you are interested, then yes. Usually, these summer programs for college students do include internship experience.

However, if you get an irresstible internship in Delhi, why not take it up instead :)

Honestly, you’ll have to research yourself and decide if it is worth your time and money.

In general, the summer school programs are just money-making for the colleges. If you happen to be visiting the US and not short of money, sure, it can be a good experience. But does it help in college admissions. Not really. Programs that are free or competitive are better.

F16Parent, aren’t most summer programs at top universities limitedly competitive? Like Stanford’s EPGY or SuMaC?

I’m sure there are summer programs which base admission solely on the student’s financial ability, though I think that would hardly be the case with Columbia’s Summer School. Correct me if I’m wrong though :)

SuMAC is competitive, EPGY is like 40-60% acceptance and so is harvard SSP. Columbia summer school ranks even lower.

Again, these are good programs and yes, not everyone gets in…but acceptance rate is still high…and if you don’t get FinAid (which is limited), it may not be worth to spend the money. In the OPs case, I think internship would be far more valuable.
