Are there any high school students who have participated in the Summer Sessions program at Columbia? I am referring to the program where undergraduates and qualified HS students can take a for-credit summer class at Columbia. I have heard mixed reviews of the precollege program, so I am considering the Summer Sessions for next year. What is the workload like? How many high school students per class, usually? Is it worth it?

“Is it worth it?” What’s your goal? To get some on campus experience? It’s rather pricey.

Or are you hoping for some advantage once time rolls around to applying to Columbia itself? Then you should know that participation in those types of pgms doesn’t give you a boost. Any program that shows initiative during the summer would be equally valuable – and probably less expensive. Even working at Pizza Hut over a summer shows something valuable to colleges.

Any other people have an opinion on Summer Sessions?
