OVs are driven by the Nov 1st EA/AD date. Most official visits take place before that. If you are clearly recruitable but have either been overlooked, or couldn’t make trips in September or October because of logistics, it is possible to make an OV after Nov 1 and to be recruited. It’s even possible to visit after Nov 1 and submit an EA/AD application a little after the Nov 1 deadline, with coach support. If coaches fail to fill needed spots before Nov 1st, they will continue to talk with athletes and invite them for visits. I’m not speaking of Columbia specifically, but the league in general.

Thanks Riverrunner, I was curious as Columbia said they do OVs much later and it did not make sense as they would lose out on the top athletes who would go for LLs (in Ivy’s) and/or go for ED apps in other schools.

If the coach is telling you they do OVs much later, believe him/her over anything you hear on CC, of course! Are you thinking this was a polite way of saying “sorry, no…”? Any school in any league that doesn’t fill its roster in the EA/ED round will certainly be courting athletes and inviting for OVs after Nov 1.

One of my S’s teammates went on an OV to Columbia just over a week ago.

D, who is a track athlete, took her OV to Columbia in October. However, she is a distance runner who was going to run xc for them as well as track, so there’s a chance they might bring sprinters, jumpers, and throwers later on during track season.
