UMich : Match (COE) and Low Match (LSA), since you’re in state your chances are better.

Columbia/Upenn/U of C : High match

I think there’s a good chance you get accepted in all of them. Columbia is probably your toughest bet.

Thanks

University of Michigan: most likely match, not too sure about what they look for since Im out of Cali
Columbia: match, though probably less likely than the other three
UPenn: Match
University of Chicago: match

Michigan: Match (lucky!)
Upenn: match
Columbia: Low Reach
Chicago: low reach

thank you for chancing me!

Matches for penn and mich. Low reaches for Columbia and U Chicago. Great work though! You can contend at most top-tier school.

@Isaacs22‌ are the matches for penn and mich on the low or high spectrum?

High… Your ACT is really good. I have friends who applied to Mich that didn’t get in because their ACTs were too low. Many people don’t know this, but Mich is actually a pretty competitive school to get into. Your ACT and EC’s will set you apart significantly. From what I see, you’ll get in to Mich easily and Penn is actually a mid-low match. Now looking at it, U Chicago is a mid-low match. I live near it and thought about applying but decided not to because I didn’t do well on the ACT. Your ACT is more than enough to get in. Hope this helps!

Penn Wharton?

@jon212‌ yes I’ll be applying to Wharton

@michkid23 Then Penn Wharton would be your greatest reach followed by Columbia. Others you’ll probably get in.

UPenn Wharton : High Reach
Columbia: Mid-High Reach
uChicago: Mid Reach

Sorry you really don’t stand out.

Great scores, good GPA, amazing ec’s ONLY if you’re applying for business, you have a good shot…

^ “DontEvenKnow” really doesn’t even know what he’s talking about.

Michigan: Match
UPenn: High Match bc business is on point
Columbia: Low Reach
UChicago: Low Reach

chance me back!!!

Columbia: Reach
UPenn: High reach b/c it’s Wharton, but your dedication to your chosen field should help I think
Uchicago: Low reach
UMich: Match

These are just my guesses. I would say Chicago will depend on your essays, as will Columbia. Wharton is a bit weird if you ask me, but it’s possible!

@Homeless2Harvard‌ , rather, I think you are the one that doesn’t know what you’re talking about…

“Great scores, good GPA, amazing ec’s ONLY if you’re applying for business, you have a good shot…”

Great scores: 34 ACT, this is average for Columbia/UPenn/uChicago, won’t help you
Good GPA: 3.97, good, but then again, with all the grade inflation, 4.00 GPA doesn’t even mean much anymore (unless the college recognizes your school and its difficulty)

Amazing ECs: Frankly, none of your ECs stand out to me.
“Won a stock challenge.” Okay, if this were worth mentioning, you’d drop the name of it.
“- Made states for a business competition, competing again this year” What, FBLA or something? Anybody could do that.
“- Made nationals for Euro Challenge (another business comp.)” Don’t know anything about this competition, but it seems very small scale -> not prestigious.
“- Interned at a New York Firm over the summer” Too many high schoolers have internships/research that it is not even unique anymore, how, if any, did this program benefit you as a student
"- Managed a lot of the sales for my father’s company and helped around with other operations

  • Idk if this helps but I invest in stocks through my father’s portfolio
  • I help with sales in my mother’s company as well" I could claim all three of these as well, and they have little - no impact on any admissions decision

Not to mention you are an Asian male and from Michigan, so you’re not getting any bonus points there.

Harsh, but it’s the reality. I would not be surprised in the least if you went 0/3 on those colleges. Your chances are not 0, but they are not good either (as everybody that puts Wharton as a “(High) Match” seems to imply). Either way, you’ll find our in several months so go do something else and don’t think about it.

DontEvenKnow is a tad harsh in my opinion but he/she does make a few worthwhile points. you see, a lot of asians with stats as good as yours and even better have applied to wharton/columbia and only a certain percentage will get in. i have a friend who applied to wharton ED, hes asian, lives in Pennsylvania, 4.0 GPA, 35 ACT and he took three subject tests including Math 2 and got 800s on them all. He got deferred. Im not saying you dont have a chance of getting in, but its certainly not a low match. i dont agree with DontEvenKnow on your EC’s however and i think that your dedication to finance will make you stand out (my friend who got deferred had no finance EC’s). to give a better gauge to your gpa, it would help to know your course rigor but i will assume you took rigorous courses in my assessment. i would say you probably will get into UMich and you have a decent chance for UChicago. columbia and wharton are gonna have to be reaches though. good luck! chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1718582-chances-of-getting-into-upenn.html#latest

Don’t worry about him. Just because he didn’t get accepted where he wanted to doesn’t mean he should be shooting down everyone else’s hopes. That’s pathetic, rude, and shows a vapid mindset. I don’t remember him stating that he was an admissions officer at Penn or anywhere for that matter. You are a strong candidate, don’t let others shoot you down just so they can feel better about themselves. Those types of people are despicable.

i personally think you have a great shot as any for uchicago and wharton. They are reaches for anyone, but more likely for you considering you have ecs that match your major and experience. The other schools are defiantly matches

Your ACT score is great and you do have a great chance at U of M. Since you still have time, you may want to try getting an even higher ACT score if you are interested in merit scholarships.

@russiabear‌ yes I’m currently taking the most rigorous course set available at my high school.
@Homeless2Harvard‌ Thanks for the review and best of luck to you in your college applications
Do you guys think that the high school you currently attend have any affect on college decisions? I was wondering this since my high school was ranked top ten in the U.S. and administers course work that is (according to what my high school teachers and alumni tell me) as rigorous, if not, more rigorous than college course work.

@afruitflyguy‌ where would you consider me for columbia university though? (lol this is kinda my dream school)
