@decemberbaby12 No- only a few of accepted applicants will receive an LL.
As mentioned earlier, the vast majority of admitted applicants will not receive a likely letter, so no, I would not worry.
Sorry to disrupt in the midst of the LL conversation, but I need a piece of advice from my fellow applicants. Have you guys ever done extremely poorly on a test after junior year? (So freshman or soph year screw-ups don’t count). How do you respond/react once you screwed up so badly on your test? I did so poorly on a test today, and I am beyond depression and anxiety.
@studioghibli , They don’t look at test scores, (beyond ACT and SAT). They look at final grade. So if it doesn’t bring down your grade too much, and you can get the grade you want to get by the end of the semester, then you’re fine.
@studioghibli Yeah, the test score won’t really matter unless it affects your semester grade… I do want to add one thing though. If you are stressing this much beyond the point of depression and anxiety, please please please reconsider your decision to attend if you get accepted. Columbia (or any other ivy)
is very difficult and you will fail many times throughout your four years. Learn how to handle the stress that comes along with an ivy league school. I don’t know you, but I definitely don’t want to see anyone committing suicide because school was too hard. I believe last year there were about 7 JUST at Columbia…
@realityhitshard Which scholar did you get?
@y90y90 Davis scholar (which is apparently the less prestigious engineering scholar program)
Is it just me or does it seem like loads of people got likely letters this year?
@cadaeibfe Agreed, around 18 people on CC have posted about getting a likely letter, and I know a few in person. That seems like a lot if there are only supposed to be ~100 letters nationwide.
@Dukehopeful98 @cadaeibfe keep in mind though that the people who get LLs are the type of people you typically see on CC anyway, so it may seem like a lot but I’m sure its just like other years.
@Dukehopeful98 Also, I think the number is more like 200ish.
Yeah I don’t think 100 is the number they send out for Columbia.
When’s Ivy Day this year?
@woahitsdice March 30
Oh, I thought most ivies did 200 athletic LLs and 100 non-athletic ones.
@Dukehopeful98 I think only Harvard has released that specific stat. I know Princeton only sends LLs to athletes and Yale sends 100 LLs to STEM students specifically but other than that, business regarding LLs is kept under wraps.
Junior popping in with somewhat reassuring news. A friend of mine two years ago (non-athlete, Comp Sci and Math) only received his LL on the 20th of March, and was named a John Jay Scholar. So don’t worry if you haven’t received one yet (besides, the majority of admits don’t get one at all from what I understand)
I received an email today to remind me to submit my financial aid info by the February 15th deadline, which is kinda weird since its March 9th. I called them up and they said they have everything. Anybody else??
me too, though i actually do have some more things i need to submit @ivydreamer555
the email said that they don’t penalize late financial aid and just to look at my portal again since apparently everything was not in there
wondering if i should read into this or not…
