Columbia University ED Class of 2022

Hi my fellow juniors! I made this thread to help get us through the application while also getting the time to know each other and familiarize ourselves with the process! let’s make good use of it!

well you made this thread super early… good job though lol, i suspect it’ll blow up in about 6 months from now

Super hyped!!! I might not be applying to Columbia ED tho :frowning: which other unis will you guys be applying to??

Hi!
I really want to apply to the Columbia-Sciences Po Dual BA Program. Can’t wait to get to know everyone

Hey, I too was going to create a thread on the same. What are you guys up to for Columbia? I’m pretty confused on what should I engage in this summer. Well I have exams and here I am on college confedential…bet that wouldn’t help

Wooo! Thank god other people are as crazy as I am and are already wanting to start the process lol

As of right now, I am deciding between Columbia, Penn, and Brown for ED, but I have only visited Columbia, hopefully soon though. I loved Columbia so much though!

I’m currently trying to decide between Columbia and Johns Hopkins for ED. I love Columbia and I really want to live in NYC but JHU may be better for an education/research in molecular bio. I’ve been reading the other ED threads from previous years, and those accepted students have crazy stats which tends to discourage me a little bit!

Columbia is definitely my first choice. Fingers crossed! Good luck to everybody on their applications.

I’m applying to Columbia through Questbridge National College Match (which is technically ED?), so I thought I’d stop by and say hi to all my fellow HS juniors :)>-

Do you guys know if Columbia keeps track of interactions (college visits, emails, etc) during the application process?

First choice definitely.

Columbia does not track previous shown interest!

Guys what are your grades and stats? And about the supplement essays- Do we just list the titles of books or what?

We should make a group me chat guys! We can all message each other in it and better discuss advice and tips for college admissions!

That would be so fun actually!!^^

Hello everyone !! So nice to meet you all. I’ll be applying ED too (most likely, if my June ACT scores turn out okay!) nice to meet you all, I’m super excited but at the same time, very very scared because I’m pretty sure I won’t make it, haha. T^T

Raystitch, we should definitely make a group chat !!

Good luck everybody with their college research and applications

Hey guys! I was accepted to Columbia last year Early Decision, and I’ll be attending in the fall! If you have any questions about the application process, what the school is like, or anything else, feel free to ask me! I can post stats from last year as well.

Good luck everyone! I hope to welcome some of you to the class of 2022!

I’m trying to decide whether I should apply to Barnard or CC ED. I love both the 9 ways of knowing and the core curriculum. Columbia of course is a dream but I’m also in love with the idea of a small liberal arts school in NYC. I can’t wait to get to know everyone!

Barnard being a “small liberal arts school in NYC” is a myth. It’s essentially an integrated part of the Columbia University system, except without the prestige of actually going to Columbia or taking the Core. The dorms are a lot worse, they have more stringent academic policies in certain places (e.g. you have to take a Lab course at Barnard but not at Columbia), and they give WAY less financial aid.

I’d hazard that a slight majority of the people at Barnard are Columbia rejects, which isn’t meant in a moralizing way. I’m just being factual. There is no benefit to going to Barnard over CC, except that Barnard is more likely to accept you. Or you don’t want to live with men, or something like that.

@vnllbnbtch99 - Barnard no longer has “9 ways of knowing” - it has been replaced with a somewhat similar broad array of distribution requirements called “Foundations” which is quite similar, but I believe that overall it is somewhat more flexible and less demanding than the old system. For example, under “9 ways” students were required to take one full year of a single lab science, and 2 years of foreign language. Now the lab science is only for one semester & onliy 1 year of foreign language required.

My daughter graduated in 2010. When my daughter was there, I was amazed at the strength of connections Barnard students had with their faculty and administration. My daughter formed close relationships with many of the faculty and deans, beginning with her first year advisor who was the head of a department at Barnard and also held a prestigious leadership post at Columbia U. As a senior my d. was even invited to private receptions hosted by the college president. She often commented on the stark difference between the way Barnard students interacted with their administration and CC; Barnard students felt respected, supported, and appreciated. (But note that Barnard now has a new presidentt) D. also raved about support she received from the career center.

Barnard is not “small” as LAC’s go – but it does provide an undergraduate-focused and highly supportive environment.

I think you should apply where you feel there is the best fit & if you really are unsure, then perhaps reconsider whether you want to apply ED at all. (My D. was a RD admit and I think that ED applicants tend to sell themselves short, but I understand the pressures student feel nowadays)
