@shinji17 Veterans tend to find out their decision first, regardless of what college they applied to within the university.
Yes, GS. I’m still a bit concerned my fin aid isn’t showing. I rechecked fafsa a few weeks ago and saw Columbia was missing from my list and I think I may have added it too late. Am calling them now. On another note, my personal essay was turned in 2 weeks late and my letters of rec were 3 weeks late and obviously it still worked out.
@mjr2013 thanks bro. It’s the men and women currently serving overseas who deserve your praise but I appreciate your kind words.
Let’s hope they send out the e-mail today (friday)
Do you guys think its a good idea to email them and ask them when the decisions will be released?
Do it!!
@collegebusiness i think calling them would be easier, quicker and preferable
Did anyone call them? Since they’re out for the weekend we probably won’t hear from them until at least monday
They sent the email
Got an email, Decisions are posted May 3rd at 5:00pm Eastern Time
All of my decisions are being posted during finals week :\
@sc4 ugh i feel that
Well, Wednesday it is… Best of Luck everyone!
Everyone post your stats with your decision
What are you guys’ reasons for wanting to transfer? (doesn’t have to be why you want to transfer to columbia specifically, just wanting to transfer away from your current school)
Can you guys chance me?
Current institution: NYU College of Arts and Science
Major: Economics/Political Science/Middle Eastern Studies
GPA: 3.925 (Midterm: 4.0)
ACT: 34
SAT II: Spanish 800, USH 700, Physics 700 (ik this is pretty bad)
High school GPA: 3.66 (this is really low also, although for my high school its in the top 1%)
ECs:
Internships at the DoE, DoJ, and United Nations
Paid internship at ThyssenKrupp this summer working with the Head of Operations of the Middle East and Africa
NYU Dean’s Scholar Program
Academic Achievement Program for minorities
NYU is going to publish my research paper on international law
Hooks: Hispanic and low income
Weaknesses: Definitely my SAT IIs and my high school GPA. It is possible for the adcom to scrap my application as soon as they see these low numbers?
@trmx97 Well, I guess I will start with the whole reason for transferring. Columbia is phenomenal for Neuroscience and Behavior. If you look at their website, they always have some new findings surfacing about neuroscience, like recently they found out a link between depression and neural networks. I really desire to participate in their research. I also would like to major in Neuroscience and Behavior because of some personal reasons. I also love the classes Columbia has to offer for this major. My current school is kind of lacking in the neuroscience and behavior field. There are many more reasons for why I REALLY want to go to Columbia University, but that above reason is one of the main reasons.
@cypo822 I think you stand a great chance! You seem like a really good candidate. Don’t worry about your high school GPA too much. The admissions officers look at your GPA within the context of your high school. Also, you have shown an incredible improvement from your high school to college GPA. Remember the application process is holistic. Anyways, best of luck. I hope you get in!
oh my stats are similar to yours ==
Anyone wanna chance me?
Current Institution: California community college – I finished my freshman fall semester at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR (Monica Lewinsky went there lol), and then moved back home for the spring semester after I realized I needed to transfer
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.925 (Midterm: 4.0)
HS GPA: I was my graduating class’s salutatorian so I was ranked #2
Senior year 4.3 W, 3.8 UW
Junior year 4.5 W, 4.0 UW
Sophomore year 4.0 W/UW
Freshman year 4.0 W/UW
SAT (My high school didn’t offer ACT): 1900
AP Lit: 4
AP Lang: 5
AP US History: 4
AP Government: 3
AP European History: 3
Psych: 4
Calc: 2 (lol)
ECs:
Piano for 5 years, French for 3 years, Student Government for 3 out of 4 years, Poetry Teacher/Academic Camp Counselor 1 year, Worked 16-20 hours/week senior year, Cheerleading 3 out of 4 years, volunteered at on-campus coffee shop at Lewis & Clark, hosted poetry nights at Lewis & Clark.
In my essays I talked about how I have a passion for poetry and writing and that I want to combine my love for poli sci with writing. I wrote that I planned on hosting open mic nights (I did this for my senior exit project) and events to help encourage students to engage in political speech and thought and to better understand politics through a more approachable medium.
Hooks: Salutatorian of my graduating class. I’m from a suuuuuuper poor and rural town in California (population 6,000 and very Republican lol). My high school was very noncompetitive and lacked resources. We didn’t have many extracurriculars and put all of our funding towards our football team. I took every AP course offered except for AP Physics.
Reason for Transferring: I changed my major from Creative Writing/English to Political Science. Lewis & Clark is a weak school academically overall and has a really broad and just lame political science program. It’s pretty much just focused on American politics and that’s not what I’m primarily interested in. I also wanted to participate in research and Lewis & Clark isn’t a research university.
“Monica Lewinsky went there lol” Bruh Im dead
