My son just got accepted into this program. He is still at 8th grade, will start high school after the summer. The admission office insisted to see his second quarter grade before making the decision, so I would imagine it is pretty tough to get in. Btw, my son has all A’s with 2 AP courses.

No, I don’t think they have AP for 8th grade students, because i’m in 8th grade myself, so i should know. But i might be wrong, because there are very different kinds of schools out there, and hey Andorvw, what kind of school does your son go to?

i was reading in a previous thread that it was an 80% acceptance rate. i feel scammed… it took me so long to write this essay-- i seriously thought they would look through the application seriously. i also heard for the summer@brown, that all they want is to fill up the dorm rooms, and i even applied to that. i started my essays like two months before, and just sent them in. i can’t believe it. someone tell me if you heard the same?

okay…I’ve see this post come up EVERYWHERE. “Finally the truth about Columbia University Summer Program”…yes I’ve read and looked at all the stuff that was said but it was 2 years ago. It may not sound like a very long time but you never know? All that I have heard is that it got a lot better. I mean a really intelligent and smart kid from my class applied and didn’t get in, so what does that show ? I just think that what you put in is what you get out of it. In response to the 80% acceptance rate, I look at it as, unless I hear it from an actual admission counselor then I don’t believe it. I mean thats my opinion, it’s prob way different from everyone else’s but thats just how I look at it. I got in and I’m just going to see how it goes. I feel like a lot of the threads are based on a standpoint that is coming from one side which is the negative aspect of it. I’ve talked to a lot of people who’ve gone and they say it was the best experience of their lives! I dont think that Columbia would “scam” you, if the acceptance rate is indeed high, then you have to look at it as this is a summer program, its not college admissions where the acceptance rate is entirely different…I don’t know guys this is just my opinion lol. =)

Hi Lauangela
I got into the same course
I was actually just a little bored at home so I was looking to see if there was a way to find people who got in too
It’s so cool to find someone
Where are you from?

oh wow that’s cool i love cezch republic, i’ve been there it’s so beautiful! i wish i could live there.
Yes, this will be my first time in columbia, it’s good to meet you and it’s great that i met someone in my course before the course

Yeah. It is pretty nice there. I dont go there often because I live in Ukraine right now. Only on winter and summer vacation i go to see my family. I was 2 when we started to move around.
It good to meet u too :)

Btw, is there anyone else here who is going this summer?

yes, my friend is going with me but sadly she isn’t going to be in the same class as we are. I’ve talked to people that are going to session 2 of the program but they aren’t in our class. However i did talk to this girl who got accepted to our class but wasn’t sure if she was going to the program at all (i talked to her 2 months ago).

So to be honest you’re the first person that i know who is going to be in the same class as i do.
