Hooks: Uhh...I'm not sure, perhaps thats why I didn't get in :'(

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE disappointment - I was so devastated!!! had to skip first part of school the next day because I just laid in my bed staring at the wall (very dramatic, I know) - but Columbia fit me so well and I was SO incredibly excited about that beautiful campus and NYC!!!

I am very sorry to hear the news, pink. Have you decided which college you will be attending next year?

so far im attending texas christian university - i was waitlisted at pepperdine so we'll see how that works out. I love Columbia so much though, I'm already planning to transfer after freshman year, no matter where I go. I agree with what someone said a few posts up - I was frustrated too that Columbia is so prestigious - even if it wasn't an Ivy it is perfect for me and I would have just wanted to get in anyway I could!

Well to be honest, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Having no idea why I was waitlisted (after seeing stats from you and everyone else, and ignoring my race), I have pretty much a 10% chance of getting in, simply because there were much fewer waitlistees to Columbia SEAS and of course, I'm black. Best of luck whichever campus you find yourself on, and try to woo your professors enough to let them write you excellent letters. See you in 2 years, Lord-willing :)

Take a gap year people.. much easier shot at getting in than transferring. You could get a decent 6-month paid internship, do some volunteering, travel, learn a language etc.

haha yes hopefully, bboy, that would be wonderful! I do hope you get in from the waitlist, as I see it - it doesn't really matter HOW you got in as long as you did, right?
As for the last post, most good internships want more than a hs degree and I can learn a language in college! Actually, I'm learning french at the local community college at night, for no credit. Anyways, I don't think I'd be able to support myself very well with a hs degree anywhere I go for a year - I'd rather just experience a couple of different campuses

Ok fair enough, but loads of British companies take people specifically from high school for internships. Don't know about America, I don't see why not though so long as you had a good CV and good interview. Just a thought. I'm just saying a gap year needn't be a complete waste of time as it seems to be viewed in America - it is quite a popular thing over in Britain, and universities generally recognize gap year applicants as being more mature and ready to deal with university life (dropout rates are generally highest in the first year).

I see your point Ace, and I had no idea a deferred year was a common/good thing in the UK - I would probably do that if I lived over there

Very lucky to get waitlisted Twizzy - I hope you scrape through though. Prettyinpink, shame you didn't get into Pepperdine at least - your stats seemed enough I guess. Best of luck to both of you. But whatever happens, I reckon just move on with the best place that has accepted you.

Well, I think you should be OK. I got rejected from Brown and waitlisted at Columbia. Hoping to get in off the waitlist, but chances of that happening are 1 in a 1000. I'll be applying for a transfer too, so hopefully I can get in, but even if I don't, I guess life moves on. I actually went to the campus the other day, it was great. Good luck with transferring. Hope you get in.

Thanks a lot. I seem to be the common topic the past month or so :P

Good stuff baby, waitlist for lyfe :P

Twizzy how'd your waitlist turn out?

I clarified in the other forum that im on the extended waitlist. I guess i'll post here that I spoke to the Admissions office and I asked one of the guys how many kids are on the extended waitlist. He originally said no, but I could tell he was a work-study. So I said "So what then, Hundreds? Tens?" Afterward he said, "Yeeaaaaaaa less than that." So I would have to say the number is Probably 10, no higher than 20. Barely matters though, cuz they will only go to the extended list if students that got off of the original waitlist choose not to go. Good luck to everyone still there though.

BboyTwizzy--- Were your questions to the Admissions office regarding CC or SEAS WAITLISTS?

SEAS; I thought i clarified.
