Columbia University question?

What are my chances in getting into Columbia University through transferring there after my first year in college? Let's say I have a 3.5 or higher GPA and i am very involved in community services and programs. Also I am pursuing a career in pre-med. Any advice would be glasdly accepted since i realized that my chances of getting in as a freshman is very little and I truly wish to attend Columbia. Thank you to any of you that will help me through this.

The Ivies do not accept many transfers in general. Some of them give preference to community college transfers, because they did not have the option to apply before. I actually read a quote by an admissions officer who said this. He was from Harvard, I believe. Some years, transfer applicants at Brown do have a much better chance than freshmen applicants, though. Look at the statistics. A 3.5 will not impress them that much, so try to shine in the application process by making yourself seem an interesting asset to the school. Also, be aware that Columbia contains many schools and programs, and some are easier than others admissions-wise. With the economic crisis, if you can afford Columbia, you will have a better chance than you would have a year or two ago. I really believe that admissions to top schools will ease up considerably.

well...i'm paying through college by the ROTC program
