How can we pride ourselves on being an open and accepting country when a respectful American guest lecturer gets verbally and physically assaulted at any Ivy League campus??? Didn't former President Khatami, who committed a multitude of sins and human rights violation in his theocratic state of Iran, get a "warm" welcome from Harvard University when he gave a guest lecture there??? America is so full of hypocrisy that it's really starting to upset me. It seems that the American youth is so indoctrinated with radical left ideals today that we might actually see Vitenam-like protests on college campuses if the Iraq War continues. I mean Gilchrist was just talkingabout immigration and Columbia students got that fired up...

I love how the blithering idiots at Fox News ONLY condemn Columbia and COMPLETELY ignore the fact that if a liberal speaker were to go to like UT-Austin or BYU or Utah State or some other extremely conservative college, the same thing would happen. And this is COLUMBIA. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IS THE BASTION OF LIBERALISM. The Columbia students have every right to scream whatever the hell they want to anyone.

That's like being conservative at UC Berkeley

Right, I'm just saying, when you make blanket statements like, "...the American youth is so indoctrinated with radical left ideals today..." it really weakens your argument...

college kids protest things too much...and most of the time they dont know what they are protesting. As long as its an anti-republican rally, they are there. Sometimes I wonder if college students even know the difference between liberal and conservative. I know this has almost nothing to do with the topic of the OP, but I just felt like saying it. I may start a thread about it depending on how people respond to my post here.

The blithering idiots at Fox News think that everyone's "indoctrinated" with "radical left ideals", and they should all go to hell. Fox News has no credibility or respect from me.

UChicago has very similar u'grad core curriculum to Columbia Univ, also similar setting (having greater portion of students in graduate and professional schools in a large urban city), the former seems to have managed campus and student movement over the years more in line with the respect expectation onto a top elite university. When one has short tolerance of other's freedom of expression, how could one expect similar respect in return.

Agreed. What's funny is that those kids actually think that they are accomplishing something...at least the organizers of the protests probably do, most of the people are probably just there because "so-and-so" is going.

Anyway, I think its pretty much true that as people grow older, their views generally turn more to the right*, leaving them either as a conservative, moderate, or a more conserative-liberal, but nothing like the ultra left moonbattiness (izzat a word?) demonstrated in that video.

*Do note that this would exclude politicians, college professors, and spouses of either of those groups.
