Hey! Didn’t see a thread for this, so I created one. Very surprising to see no activity, but I’ll be the first to start. Can’t wait for decisions to roll around. Right now, Columbia is one of my top choices and I’d be ecstatic if I got in. Let’s get a discussion going!
Thank God you started this thread! I was looking forward to it one of these days…
So, are there any hints about admission that anyone knows about?
will decisions really come out on April 1st??? no fooling??
It’s March 26th. All Ivies release on the same day.
Hey I’m just trying to clear this up for the sake of my parents. I originally applied for Columbia with financial aid but then never completed it because my parents only allowed my to send my css to my top three colleges at the time (due to price). His month (march) I got an email asking for me to complete my financial aid info even though it’s way past the rd due date (with no penalties). Is this a good sign as it wouldn’t be sensible to ask for financial aid info this late in the game? I also have been getting A LOT of emails about their summer courses. Has anyone else been getting these?
Hey @CindyLeuWho. I got a similar email and am hoping that it’s a good sign. However, I was stalking the threads from last year and discovered that people who got that email didn’t get in. Although this year, someone on Reddit who received a similar email got in ED. Did you send the documents in? I sent them in and received a response from an official from the FA office, also CCing another email ID that I do not recognize. If you don’t mind, we could discuss this in details via PM. Please send me a message if you want to talk more.
Hi Cindy,
Current student here. I did the same thing - Columbia wasn’t high on my list since I didn’t think I would get accepted so I didn’t send in the CSS profile or IDOC documents by the “deadline”. It has no impact on your acceptance, and once admitted I sent in all my documents I still received over $72,000 in grants my first year. The Financial Aid Office is completely understanding. It’s neither a good nor bad sign that you received this email saying “with no penalties,” as they really just want you to get your financial aid letter at the same time as your acceptance letter if you were to be accepted. You getting emails about their summer courses merely means you are on their mailing list. I was not on their mailing list at all (email or home address) and was still accepted.
Hey @billbixby34! So you didn’t receive an email from the FA office asking you to send in the documents like Cindy did?
I did receive that email when I was applying to Columbia, yes, around mid-late March.
Aah, okay
do you guys know when RD decisions come out
@winnie24 all ivy league schools will release decisions on 3/26. not sure what time though… I have seen 7 PM EDT floating around
@billbixby34 Thank you for sharing! How curious to be honest, and I’m glad that their FA office is understanding. I never expected to get in, even while applying, so it would be cool to see what happens!
Good luck to everyone!
Random question… After taking the ACT a few years ago I started getting tons of emails from colleges asking me to apply, but since I was a sophomore that didn’t know anything about the college application process the emails just annoyed me and I blocked (or ‘unsubscribed’) from a few of the ones that emailed me the most. Fast forward to this year, a few weeks after applying to Columbia, I realized that it was one of the schools I blocked. Since applying, the only email I’ve received is the one telling me to set up my portal. Chances of getting in were already slim, but will they be able to see that I blocked them? Is it possible I’ve missed important emails? I never heard anything about an interview, and I wonder if this is why…
Did you “block” them in your email account or unsubscribed from their mailing list? I don’t think it matters to AO either way. But you may have missed updates if you blocked them in your account…
@aarybalkar I just unsubscribed from their mailing list. I’m mostly just hoping I didn’t miss any important information they may have wanted to send me.
I don’t think you would have. The mailing list and emails from the Admissions Office are two different things.
Check the new email regarding time decisions are released!
I love how I knew Ivy day was next Thursday but reading the email made it terrifyingly official.
Oof. Good luck to everyone waiting on decisions! I hope we all get in!
