Columbia University, Teachers College PhD Programs

How hard is it to gain admissions to the PhD Programs at TC, Columbia? I'm particularly interested in the Politics and Education program, and the Comparative/Intl Education and Political Science PhD.

Any info on TC in general would be appreciated. Thanks!

I guess it varies due to a number of different factors but I think it would be safe to say that though it may be difficult it's not impossible. You just have to know what you want, be able to convey that notion, and prove that you would be productive if admitted. My cousin was admitted to a PhD at TC for Education Policy a few years ago and was accepted. Her grades were not PERFECT nor were her test scores, but she knew what she wanted to do and expressed it clearly in her essay. Additionally, she had publications, paper presentations, and numerous scholarships and awards for her past contributions. Be advised though that TC is notorious for not funding even PhD candidates. This is not my opinion but something I have heard from other students. I would seriously look into outside funding should you be accepted. Good luck!

I might be applying to the anthropology program at TC. I heard as well that funding is very limited, even to PhD students...which I find to be strange since it's an ivy league school. Aside from that, I have a friend right now who's doing a masters there and loves it.
