<p>i always hear of these insane traditions that other colleges have, but ive never heard too many about Columbia</p>
<p>At matriculation, the President comes out walking with a mace inhand. So he can pick out one of the freshmen and sacrifice them to the gods for a prosperous academic year.</p>
<p>Hidden in the statue of the alma mater is an owl. The first person in each class to find it is said to be the valedictorian. I already found it over a year ago, so too bad you all of you. :-P Not really a tradition as much as a myth.</p>

<p>upon entrance into Columbia University one must undergo a series of trials similar to that encountered by Hercules.
So for whoever gets in, watch out for the Hydra - slicing off one of the heads only produces two more.</p>
<p>The night before the organic chemistry final (Orgo Night) the marching band, "the cleverest band in the world", invades the library and puts on a performance.</p>
<p>Haha that's great. I haven't heard that, but man studying for ochem will be a beast. Hope the interruption isn't too long because then I'll get angry cus i want to get back to studying.</p>
<p>naked run - happens sometime in november. students gather at midnight in front of the alma mater and run around the quad naked.</p>

<p>The naked run happens at Harvard too, but it's like a study break during finals or something. I guess college students like streaking. Everyone wants to be like Frank the Tank- We're going steaking!!!!! (I hope you guys got that reference so I don't seem crazy)</p>
