Columbia University Transfer Fall 2011

i always found it very intriguing that you guys post your stats on college confidential. What is your aim? Do you want people to tell you if you either have a good chance or a bad chance of getting in?

Anyway, I transferred to Columbia last year and the work hefty. Readings for professor Rashid Khalidi (middle east expert) comes at around 200 pages a week (and he uses 4 books). This is only for 1 class mind u. Wanting to go to Columbia means that you must be prepared to work.

Socially, Columbia is not the greatest place in terms of school spirit and solidarity among the student body. People dont talk to one another in class, and if they do, its all very superficial and we just pretend we dont know each other the next lesson. The school has to bribe us to go to sports meets by giving us free Tshirts.

I was given acceptance to Brown and Columbia. I actually committed myself to Brown but withdraw my commitment after my parents forced me to go Columbia because it was more globally renown. Though I would say I am enjoying my time here, I think I would prefer the Brown environment because I am a more social person.

I think if any one of you really want to get into Columbia for the name and know nothing about it at all, it is best that you come and sit in one of the classes and see how it is like and walk around the school. If you have the opportunity.

Hello
SAT: 2190
GPA: 3.7
HS GPA: 3.9
transferring from RISD - painting major

I’ve never seen anyone applying from art school… I dont know what this means.
Good luck everyone.

btw, my status keeps saying that my recommendations did not arrive… should I be worried at this point? I tried emailing them but they told me to wait until april… and thats like… tmro :(

hey, not going to post stats because I don’t really feel like it. I currently attend Reed College and don’t know my GPA anyway!

mjmisa, my application tracker also says that my recommendations and advisor evaluation are not in yet. Anyone else in the same boat? I’m guessing since my transcript only got entered on the due date that they are just very slow when it comes to processing transfer student materials.

That’s pretty much the same for everyone.
They have to manually open the letters and upload them, so it takes extra time.
Plus, until freshman admission decisions are out (which I believe is tonight), they’re not concentrating on transfers till then.
They’ll get around to it, so don’t stress out too much :P

i totally agree? like we are in the same pot as you, I think they just look for justification, but at the end of the day it’s dumb because we aren’t the ones on the admissions community lol I find it so dumb
statsss??? chance meee? I wish they would just shut up!

Hi everyone. I’m a 2nd year student at UCLA major in psychobiology and decided to apply for transfer admissions at Columbia University. I was waitlisted back in 2009 and decided to give it a try one more time. My situation is very different. I attend UCLA, but am a commuter, work-part time since i need to pay my full tuition out of my pocket. I don’t receive any form of financial aid from UCLA or the Government since I am undocumented. I have very compelling reasons why I want to transfer to Columbia. My grades and SAT’s are not at all great, but I have good reasons why I was not able to do well.

damn student101, I hope you get in dawg.

so according to the online application status checklist thing, Columbia hasn’t received any of my rec letters, transcripts(i sent them all in one envelope more than a month ago). I was wondering if anyone else who applied is facing this same issue??? i’m really worried :S

Some of my things are still missing, even though I sent them together as well. I’m sure it’s just differences in processing for each document.

However, I am worried because it says they haven’t received my supplement… but on Common App, everything definitely says submitted…

They say to wait until April 15 to resubmit missing documents. Hopefully everything will be updated by then.

I was in the same boat, but about two weeks ago everything was updated and all my letters of rec, transcripts, etc shows they are there. I would think if they aren’t there yet, you should start to pay attention to that April 15 deadline.

OK guys, I wouldn’t worry it just seems the website is dated. I just called them and they have all my application materials, even though my status on the website says I’m missing around half of them.

^ Good to know. The majority of my documents are still shown as missing.

I find it intriguing that the Midterm Report isn’t listed under required documents. I was even told by a representative to email the University because one of my midterms won’t be graded and returned until next week.

I called last monday and they said they have my materials, but today (almost two weeks later) the website still isn’t updated. So basically don’t worry because I’m pretty sure they just aren’t updating their website.

Everything shows as received for me except for test scores which I definitely sent. Anyone else in the same boat?

Raftguy, my account says I’m missing my scores and recs, so don’t worry about it

There is still no test score on file on my account… I have sent my score like a few months ago. Unless that, all the other documents are received. Besides, the date of the status of those received documents have changed several times, anyone have the same situation? Does it indicate anything? They read the application for several times???

Same situation.
don’t worry~

Bahumbbug! Its been a few days since the 15th and they still claim to not have my College Official Report. Don’t they know that it is not that easy to go back and beg your Advisor to “just send in” my Official Report? Its not like my Advisor didn’t send it in before! Ugh just more annoying setbacks. Anybody else still have stuff missing? I’m calling tomorrow (actually today). Hopefully I’ll keep calm =)

Don’t worry about it, they said it’s taking them some time to process it.
For instance, I sent my transcript in, but it’s still not there; they assured me that if they don’t contact you after a certain point, you’re all good.
They will hound you if once they process everything and start deliberating they see something missing that is important. However, I think that they’d be more inclined to hound you if you’re actually a viable candidate, because realistically I don’t see any admissions office wanting to follow up with thousands of applicants. They’re not baby sitters, after all.
