If Columbia isn't responding to financial aid emails this late in the game, could that be because my app was already rejected, so they're not wasting their time? Or is financial aid a completely separate component?

I already asked this in the general College Admissions forum but didn't get much response and wanted to hear from people who might know more about Columbia's process specifically.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I kept e-mailing Columbia because my SAT scores were listed as pending on the tracking website. The first time I wrote they sent me an automated response. The next few times I got absolutely no reply. I assumed the worst. I received a likely letter last night.

I would say don’t panic. They seem to be overwhelmed with emails/not very responsive. If there is anything major that you need to communicate to them then I would suggest calling the FA/Admissions office.

My daughter’s financial aid tracking system says that our FAFSA has not been received yet. I sent them an email almost over two weeks ago with our SAR number and Columbia ID. They said that they would be able to locate it. The site still says that it is not received but they updated our CSS/IDOC information yesterday. I think they are just overwhelmed. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yes, that’s what I emailed them about too!! My FA site says the FAFSA has not been received, and I filed at the end of January. Thank you both for your responses. I just really need to get to the finish line of this process. I seem to be getting more pessimistic as it goes on.

We are in the same boat too. Site says FAFSA hasn’t been received but it was submitted on 1/31/2011. CSS done the same day and is showing. Perhaps they haven’t pulled the FAFSA data in yet?

Columbia is need blind, so financial aid is indeed separate from admissions. So I would not worry about this until you get admitted and need to figure out what your financial aid package will be.

Best to all of you! The waiting is almost over!!!

I just got a return email from Financial Aid. They asked for a copy of the FAFSA Confirmation so they could troubleshoot so they are in fact missing it.
