Hey, I'm currently having a tough time deciding between these schools. One big problem is the fact that I have no idea what I want to study, though I'm pretty sure I'm going to do engineering with either biology or econ. I don't know whether I want to do in the future either, though I doubt its going to be anything terribly humanities-oriented. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I know nothing about Caltech. It's pretty good to choose Columbia SEAS if you don't know what you want to do as a job yet but are sure you want to study engineering undergrad. SEAS students can minor in econ in the College without having to apply or anything. The econ department at Columbia is tops.

With my limited information, I would say to choose Caltech if you're sure you want to be a pure engineer when you graduate. If you're not sure, and may go into business or med/law/business school, then Columbia may be a better option, espeically if you like NYC and the people there, who are definitely different from the student body at Caltech.

Hard choice, but an envious decision to make. Good luck!
