I just got back from the Princeton Preview days and really liked the academic opportunities that Princeton offered. However, the social scene definitely is lacking. I'm visiting Columbia next week in order to compare. I'm thinking about majoring in International Relations and I'm torn between the social life and opportunities of Columbia and the academics of Princeton. What should I do?

Also, I live really close to Princeton and I'm unsure whether I want to be that close to my parents.

Probably can’t go wrong. I’m sure there’s a decent social scene at both! Never underestimate the value of being close to home. When break time rolls around, it’s nice to be able to be close enough to drive. I go to Davidson and live in Charleston, so it’s a good four hours. Closer than it could be, but I wish there could be a way to just shave off an hour from the drive.

I’m in the exact same position. princeton vs. columbia… i’m visiting both next week but i’m already leaning columbia’s way and will probably enroll there. princeton stresses academics because it has no social scene. columbia stresses community and liveliness because they have that (NY). Columbia also has amazing academics, its just that their stellar social scene is their main selling point to prospective freshman.

Columbia has the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Hey if you’re visiting columbia this week we should meet up or something i’m going this week too :)

I had pretty much the same problem with Penn vs. Princeton and I’m 99% sure I’m going with Penn. I would have such cabin fever otherwise!! But NYC is even better than Philly so congrats.
