Columbia vs. Georgetown 2016 ED - Input needed

Hi all, I am still debating where to apply early between my two top choices (Georgetown and Columbia). I know both are huge reaches, but I´d like to apply early to one. I love both schools and would like to know which one would I would be most likely accepted at. I´m an incoming senior, btw. Any input would be great.

Thank you much.

Well obviously they are both very difficult to get into. It’s really not a question of which you would “most likely” be accepted at. Georgetown is generally regarded as “easier” to get into I suppose, just going by acceptance rates, but that’s independent of which school you should apply to.

Right now you are hindered by test scores and GPA( your URM status will make up for one of them, but not both). Get straight As senior year with the hardest possible courseload and up your act to 33( your ACT is better than your SAT, and 32 is 97th percentile, 33 is 99th) .

Georgetown doesn’t have ED; it’s EA. There is a positive to this, though – no one is rejected during EA, while Columbia can reject during ED. Also, Georgetown (and some other schools) don’t allow you to apply to Georgetown EA and early to another school; I’m not sure if this is true for Columbia.

Esoterical is right, though – you need to improve your SAT, at least to 2200+.

I thought georgetown wasn’t selective? But anyways, Georgetown can reject during EA if you truly don’t have a shot at getting in, and the acceptance rate from deferred applicants is only around 10% (based on last years numbers). Correct me if I am wrong about the lack of SCEA for georgetown please

Georgetown doesn’t reject, they only defer. I would apply to whichever you like better since both are long shots. How is your GPA compared to others from your school? I know my school “doesn’t rank” but I still knew I was pretty close to the top so I’m sure you could figure out how close you are as well. A 3.74 could be amazing at a competitive school while it could be terrible at a school with high grade inflation.

Thanks you all for your responses.

I realized from another post that I´d forgotten SAT Subject Tests, so here they are.

 • French: 800
 • US History: 770
 • Spanish: 750
 • Literature: 680 (probably won´t send)

Yes, I´m hoping to get at least a 30 on my math section next time. I get around 32-33 on practice sections so I think with more practice I could pull it off.

My school´s one of the best public high schools in Michigan. So a 3.74 is, approximately, top 10%. I´m not sure though.

I just wanted to know which early program would be most beneficial since I only have one early app. As in, I don´t want to waste the one early app I get.

Thanks for all your input guys! Much appreciated. :)

Georgetown’s EA policy is that you can apply to as many other non-restrictive EA schools as you would like, but to no ED schools or SCEA schools.
