I was just wondering if going to Columbia as an ecnomics major gives one a better opportunity in the business world than NYU Stern. I know Columbia doesnt offer business programs, but what are the advantages verses disadvantages. Maybe NYU Stern is a better candidate-- Just post your opinions.

woah, i just did a similar post and i am debating between the two myself. Eventhough Columbia is an ivy and is slightly more prestigious, i think that Stern is stronger in econ and business. I have heard the economics program at Columbia is so-so compared to its art and history programs and therefore i think Stern is a better choice strictly on this matter. There is the point that Columbia is a more broad curriculum and has a more campus-like feel.

have u applied to Stern and Columbia, and will u choose Stern if u had both opportunities available

I applied to both Columbia and Stern, and I think I would choose Stern over Columbia.

I think a lot depends on what you hope to get out of an undergrad education, and whether you expect your bachelors degree to be your terminal degree. Stern will undoubtedly offer more business-oriented classes than an econ or similar program at CU. Columbia College offers the Core Curriculum and a stronger liberal arts background. Both are great schools, and both are a good degree for a business career. If you plan to go on for an MBA, I'd lean toward a non-econ major at Columbia; if a bachelors degree is the end point, and you are confident that business is the career you want, then a Stern degree might have an edge. I'd hasten to add that neither is a bad choice, and that each college has different advantages and characteristics that may influence your decision.
