Columbia vs. NYU vs. Chicago vs. Johns Hopkins

What are the main differences between these universities? What are some similarities? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't NYU have a lot of art, theatre, and music majors. Johns Hopkins is known for medical but how are their other programs? What are columbia and chicago known for? Thanks

NYU: Stern
Columbia: Pretty strong in sciences I think ...
Chicago: Econ
John Hopkins: Med, IR

Really they all have a lot of strong points, but those are the ones that I can think of from my time reading CC

All are strong in most any area an undergraduate in which an undergrad would be interested. Visit each and see which one "clicks."

Hopkins is good for engineering. Chicago has no engineering.

Columbia: Ivy in NYC, with a self-contained campus, school has a core curriculum (either you hate or love it). By far the most prestigious of this group.

NYU: Large, private university without a campus in the middle of Greenwich Village, NYC. Great location for studying, although one can easily get distracted. I've heard Washington Square Park is notorious for drug activity. Depending on the division, the school quality varies, ie., Tisch is a top school for the arts.

Chicago: School with reputation as being academically rigorous. Probably the most prestigious school in the midwest, slightly above Michigan and Northwestern. Like Columbia, Chicago has a core curriculum. On this list, Chicago is closest to Columbia in terms of look and feel of being at a top university in a major city. Both campuses are somewhat isolated from the major business districts.

JHU: School similar to Chicago in terms of reputation, with a strong reputation in sciences.

Almost uniformly excellent. Hopkins is most famous for biomedical sciences, but other programs are equally strong. Earth Science, Molecular Biology & Biophysics, Neuroscience, Chemistry, Physics, Art History, German, French, Near Eastern Studies, History, Classics, English & Creative Writing, Music (Peabody), International Studies, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering are standouts.
