Columbia vs tufts

I can’t decide! Help! I am leaning towards Columbia because it is much more diverse and not in Boston and I overall think the people and professors there are just super incredible and unparalleled.
Things I am worried about though: Stress culture too much? Too many people who want to work at banks? what else should i be worried about??

OP asked"what else should I be worried about ?"

Worrying too much.

Well OP, if you don’t want to be in Boston, that would be a good reason not to go to Tufts.

@nycsenior525, did both schools provide you with similar financial aid packages? I know Columbia tries to meet full need without loans.

I lived near Tufts. A lovely green campus, and I really like the suburbanish neighborhood around it. You would be a short walk from Davis Square and can take the Red Line train into Cambridge and Boston.

Columbia provides you with New York City as your “playground.” However, I suspect your dorm would be more cramped. Moving off campus for most is not an option. At Tufts, I believe you can move off campus, but I hear rent has become pretty astronomical in the Boston suburbs.

Personally, I prefer Boston (my parents came from NYC), but I believe Columbia has more to offer.

And I assure you that not everyone at Columbia wants to go into banking in the same way not everyone at Johns Hopkins is a premed student.

There’s a real plus for going against the grain. Sure, many Columbia College kids are Econ majors and I-Bank/Big Consulting wannabes.

So, if you are a lit/hume major, the faculty are extremely glad to see you. OTOH, my guess is that Tufts faculty would be a little more approachable by undergrads. Columbia U has 2x as many grad students, so its focus is clear.

Having lived in both cities as a person without much money, I found Boston an easier place to be a student on a limited budget. NYC is unparalleled in what it offers, but a LOT of it requires $. Not sure if that’s a consideration for you…
