Hi, I’m a little new on here so I apologize if this is in the wrong forum section.
Columbia has been my dream school for a while now. Everything about it, especially the core, I love. I have attended a few college events and know that my supplements already address and talk about what they are looking for. The only problem is my major.
I want to become a Screenwriter, which is not a major Columbia currently offers. Because of this, my other choice would be USC. Being the top film school in the country, USC would really give me the education and connections I need to break into the industry. Everything about their program seems amazing, it’s just USC as a school. I am not big on the whole school spirit of a sporty school, I do not like sororities or fraternities, and I am not in love with Los Angeles. On top of that, part of me feels like their core doesn’t really fit me.
So I’ve been stuck in a mental battle all month, wondering if I should ED to Columbia or not. Columbia fits me perfectly, but it doesn’t have my major. USC has my major, but doesn’t really fit me. Both would cost me relatively the same amount, though I do know that USC is generous in merit scholarships. I’m just terrified of dropping a lot of money on an education that won’t benefit me. Would going to Columbia, which is a much better fit for me, screw me over in the long run? Would it be better to suck it up and go to USC, enter the industry, and then later in life move to NYC?
I’m terribly stuck. Any thoughts?
