Columbia wins 4x800 Championship of America at Penn Relays

Columbia ran a fantastic race to win the 4x800 meter Championship of America relay at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Their time was 7:22.64, narrowly edging second place Michigan by .1 seconds. I was at the meet and got to watch the race, and it was awesome. Coming down the fianl straightaway, there were a ton of teams still in the race, but the Columbia anchor pulled out a great finishing kick and won. The announcers couldn't believe it, shouting "And its going to be Michigan. No wait, Columbia! Columbia?? COLUMBIA!" First Penn Relays title for Columbia since 1930, first for the Ivy League since 1976.

Umm...yay spirit!

A girl from my class went to that. She took first with a 4:50 mile.

Man, we're better at sports than I thought.

We've actually gotten pretty good at sports this year. Women's soccer made the ncaa's, men's tennis was playing in a tie-breaker for the ivy league title against penn yesterday (I don't know who won), and the crew team is apparantly one of the top 5 or 10 in the northeast. Also fencing has always been really good.
