Congrats! So interviews are mandatory every year for those who are accepted into the Dual BA. If you have received an interview you can now consider yourself a semi-finalist. After the interviews, the admissions committee will make its final cuts before sending out acceptance letters. The Dual BA interview is unlike any other interview you will have done so far. It is not with alumni but with a panel made up of Columbia and Trinity College Dublin admissions officers and Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University professors. The questions you will be asked will be very heavy in content. You might get one question on why you want to do the Dual BA but all other questions will be testing your knowledge and critical thinking skills in the area of study you have chosen. For example; if you are applying for Neuroscience they might ask you to compare and contrast Europe and the United States Covid-19 vaccine rollout plans. If you are applying for European Studies they might ask your thoughts on the immediate political impacts that have occurred due to the UK leaving the European Union. They will also probe you heavily on anything mentioned in your resume or essay. The questions they ask are not random they will be specifically related to things you put down on the application. For example if you mentioned that you are in a political club at school, they probably won’t ask you about national politics but your thoughts on your current states politics.
There isn’t really one major that is more competitive than another major. The most popular majors are the ones that also have the most spots available vs less popular majors that have less spots available. The acceptance rate is fairly average across majors from what I have gathered in my experience.
Due to Covid-19 there were quite a few who chose to defer admissions to this year. Everyone featured on the instagram from now till admissions decisions are released are students who deferred from last year.
Just wanted to let any of you who might be interested know, that there is going to be a Q + A all about the interview process going up tomorrow on the instagram @columbiatcd2025. So if you want, go drop some questions there.
Disclaimer: As always this is just my own personal expierence.

If we speak multiple languages and we put them in the application, should we expect for them to speak with/test us in them during the interview or is it entirely in English?
The interview will be in English. I have never heard of anyone ever being tested on languages during the interview, and was not for my interview. If you are concerned though I would contact the admissions office. They are super helpful and willing to answer questions. At most I would expect some questions asking why you think languages are important, etc…
Do you know how competitive the admissions process was this year? Do the majors always fill up if enough people apply or is does the small number of students in some majors just indicate that a fraction of the applicants were good enough? Thank you
As a student, I’m afraid I am unable to answer your questions. I would highly recommend reaching out to the admissions office with your questions and concerns. They are super nice and helpful.
This isn’t specifically related to the interview, but are people ever confused when they ask which university you go to? I’m just curious because it seems like a very untraditional program so I was wondering if employers and stuff are able to understand what it is
Amongst friends and classmates there is definitely confusion. But I have found no issue when it comes to applying for internships etc… The Sciences Po x Columbia Dual BA is actually really well known in academic circles and in International work fields, they have produced multiple Rhodes Scholars and so forth in the last 10 years. Since the Trinity Dual BA follows the same format most people I have interviewed with for internships are actually very impressed by the program. Especially because both Trinity College Dublin and Columbia University are very world renowned universities. Also it is not a joint degree but two separate bachelor degrees. So when necessary I just mention the one that is most relevant to the situation if there is any sort of confusion. Most of the time though I take a brief minute to explain the program since the uniqueness of it is one of its biggest assets.
Finished my interview! Not really sure how to feel about it. Some of the questions caught me off-guard, but I tried my best.
Does anyone know when decisions are coming out??? I’m losing my mind I want to get in so bad
I asked during my interview and they said around April 2nd! Last year it came out the day before ivy day
My interviewer said it would be by April first, or maybe sooner!
The admissions calendar on the website said that decisions would come out on April 2nd. AHH scared
When you open your portal does it say that all official AP exam scores are awaiting? That just popped up recently for me.
where do you see that? i don’t think that’s on mine but i could be looking in the wrong place or i may not have submitted ap scores lol
It’s at the top of my application checklist
