Columbia's appearence in movies, commercials, ect increases prestige?

Does the apperance of schools in the media, movies, ect raise prestige? List the number of places yov’ve heard of, seen, heard the mentioning of Columbia in particular. Did it raise the thoughts of the school in your mind?

Cingular commercial

Spiderman movies

Ghostbusters

A New York minute

Hitch

Manhattan project

We've been in more than that!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_university#In_film.2C_television_and_the_arts

I don't know if it increases prestige...I think it's more because our campus is uniquely beautiful. Most other campuses renowned for their aesthetic allure are Gothic, whereas we have a more Classical theme.

Just look at Butler and Low Libraries: breathtaking.

doesn't/didn't (i haven't followed the show since season 2 or 3) Meadow Soprano go to Columbia as well? If something big happens (like she ODs on campus and a new hall is erected in her memory) then dont ruin it for me, in case i watch the DVDs. But I think i recall seeing an episode or two with her on campus.

Yeah, she paid alot to get in. I remember my mom saying something about one of the kids from 7th heaven being there, cuz she thought it'd be funny if they met on a TV show.
Doesnt' the royalties from ghostbusters help pay for the grass to be maintained in front of the library? I think that's what they said on the tour...

I have seen it mentioned in books too. Catcher in the Rye by Salinger and Dead-Eye Dick by Vonnegut, and those are just the ones I have read recently.

oh really, the character meadow soprano paid a lot to get in, as in contributions from the family?

it certainly can't hurt ;)

mekrob, yes, your memory about the royalties going to landscaping is correct. I dont know if it's true, but they certainly said it.

seeing the school in popular culture does affect the way I see it but not necessarily "increases prestige"

other than those mentioned above,

the Pulitzer comes from CU

Will and Grace (Will graduated from Columbia if I remember correctly. -"Just as good as Harvard no matter what my parents say"

Third Rock From the Sun (from a very old episode that I can't believe I remember) A mysterious woman who traded beanie babies was called "the columbian" because her nephew goes to columbia.

I do believe Vanessa Carlton is attending/will attend Columbia as an English major.

Jessie from saved by the bell went to columbia

amanda peet graduated from Columbia University in 1995 ..She was a history major...but recently, she has become big actress and is starring in an upcoming movie with Ashton Kutcher.

i heard alicia keys went to columbia and my host from diversity days said he talked to julia stiles, shes a senior there now

Jessie from saved by the bell went to columbia? You must be mistaken. The actress from showgirls?

Has anyone seen that cell phone commercial where they guy sends a text message to his mom while he is on the steps in front of the library?

one of the adcoms from Columbia created a new reality show on ABC called The Scholar. i don't think it was filmed on campus, but i'd say that's pretty prestigious.

haha yeah the actress's character in the show saved by the bell goes to columbia not in real life

Prestige form movies? I'm not sure whetehr Hitch or NY Minute could add prestige to any school at all. Actually it seems to me like movies tend to set geniouses in HYP. Has anybody seen a movie where Columbia is really protraited as it deserves?

I thought Jessie Spano wanted to go to Stanford. She said something about it in that episode in which she got hooked on caffeine pills: "I'm so excited, I'm so excited, [sob], [sob]...." "There's never any time, I'll never pass geometry, I'll never get into Stanford...."
