Combine GPA from CC and Berkeley

Hi all,

I actually have a question regarding how to combine GPA from a community college with your university GPA. I actually went to a CC for 2 years and then transferred to Berkeley-Haas School of Business. My GPA in CC is pretty good (> 3.85). But my Berkeley GPA is not as good as my CC GPA, it's a tiny bit below 3.5.

I really want to get a job in Investment Banking/Finance/Consulting and I know many of them have GPA cut-offs of 3.5.. I am afraid that my current UC GPA right now would prevent me from getting the interviews (eventhough it's really only a tiny bit away from 3.5). This is why I am thinking of combining my two GPAs...

I have had previous internships in finance and accounting in one of the Big 4 and I would hate to see all those efforts wasted away by some tiny bit margin in GPA...

That said, can you all help me figure out on how to combine the GPAs? Do you think combining it is a good idea? Any ideas of whether those firms/companies will ever consider my application if my GPA is just a tiny bit below 3.5??

Thank you!

You can’t combine GPAs because those firms will be looking at your UC transcript. Having a GPA under 3.5 is ok as long as you have relevant work experience.

Round up your GPA if applicable (i.e. 3.5 instead of 3.48). If it’s like 3.44, though, you’re gonna have to deal with it.

If you are quoting transcript GPA, it is best to write it exactly as the transcript reports (no rounding).

Never, ever round up gpa. (It is a big no-no, and considered unethical.)

Do not combine gpa’s from different colleges on a resume. You can list both colleges under the education section, however.

Cal – 3.4

Juco - 3.9
