Combining new SAT and old SAT

Some schools accept the old SAT only if you take the SAT2 Writing. Can this writing component be substituted with the writing section from the new SAT?

For example, Rice says this:
All freshman applicants have two options: (1) you may meet the requirements for the class entering 2005; OR (2) you may take the new SAT or the ACT with the writing test and submit two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to your proposed division of study.

I haven't taken the SAT2 Writing, and i've done really well on my old SAT. My new SAT, on the other hand, is extremely poor and I don't want to take it again. (already took old twice and new twice, and deadlines are past anyway). The difference between my verbal on old and critical reading on new is 170 points. I was hoping they would take the writing section from my new SAT since it's virtually the same exact thing with a harder curve.

I don't believe the SAT II in writing is being administered any longer. If it hasn't already been discontinued it is slated to be very soon. Most schools are not using the Writing section of the new SAT with any degree of certainty as there are not yet any norms on the test. There WERE percentiles, etc. on the SAT II in writing so that could be used...this is not the case for the new SAT writing section. It is very possible that some students who are applying for fall 2006 admission took the SAT II writing last spring. Those students would be able to use that test. Does anyone know if the SAT II writing has already been administered for the last time?

Yes, the last administration was January 2005. Now I wished I just took the test for the sake of taking it just so they would consider my old scores.

Ahhh....Most colleges will accept the best scores you have. In other words, your old SAT scores for Verbal and Math would be used as the CR/Math scores. Some schools take your best composite from any test (in other words your best math, and best verbal from any sitting). Other schools take the highest score in one sitting (in your case, the old SAT sounds like that would be it). However, if your schools require the SAT 2 in Writing, you will either have to take that or the ACT. Many schools allow the ACT instead of having to take the SAT 2's.
