Come answer my question, I have cookies!

Hey guys. So I just got rejected to 4 of my dream schools, and it sucks. It REALLY sucks. I'm still waiting on 4 more schools, but those are most likely rejections since ALL of them were reach-high reach schools.

However, one of my safeties is Texas A&M Business Honors, which is a pretty decent school (B-School is 33, Overall is 66). Problem is, I REALLY don't want to go there.

In your opinion, should I just "duke it out" for my undergrad and get a 4.0 GPA in hopes of getting into a better graduate school? Or should I just get a 4.0 freshman year and transfer to a more prestigious institution?

And also about transfers, do I still need to retake SAT/ACT courses? And do the HS GPA/transcript still weigh heavily into the decision process? Or is it more college GPA. If its ACT/SAT & HS stuff, I probably won't transfer. I had relatively lower grades than I wanted, which is most likely the reason I was rejected. I will be able to get a "fresh" start and use my HS mistakes as a guideline for what NOT to do in college, lol.

At this point, money isn't THAT large of an issue. My parents make a decent amount and I make a decent amount too.

Thanks for your input and opinions.

Up!

10character

Aww c’mon, no help? :(

Wait till all the schools come out before making a decision. I know it’s hard, but don’t beat yourself up until everything has come out. Also, you may want to look at transferring.

Thought a added list of the colleges may help:

Rejected: Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, Washington Uni & St. Louis, NYU

Waiting for rejections: Notre Dame, Emory, Harvard, UPenn

Accepted: University of Rochester, Texas A&M

Sigh. Damn, I thought I would be luckier D:

Oh c’mon! You can’t just say “waiting for rejections!”

What about University of Rochester?

Rochester is too expensive for its prestige :(. I can’t justify paying 55k a year for a school without a business undergrad unless its top 10 schools ;)

I applied thinking that I would obtain some kind of scholarship (since many of my friends obtained them with similar stats/extracurriculars), but I didn’t :(

I see…so you got accepted by Texas A&M and Rochester only? Will Texas A&M be in-state for you? Did you receive any kind of scholarship at A&M?
You should prolly wait till decisions are out from all other remaining schools.

Yeah.

TAMU is my state school. I still can’t believe I didn’t apply to UT Austin, I didn’t know what I was thinking at that time.

I guess another option for me would be to obtain a 4.0 from TAMU my first year and transfer to UT Austin for McCombs.

I want to see the cookies before I answer.

Oh, OK, I’ll go first. Planning to bounce around from one school to another doesn’t make any more sense than going into a marriage with a plan for getting divorced. There’s a lot to be said for the bonds and connections that you make over four years. If my son doesn’t like any of his acceptances in a year from now, I’d advise him to take a gap year rather than attend somewhere with a plan of transferring. BTW, TAMU is incredibly popular among students!

Now, how do I get the cookies?

Texas A&M may not be Harvard, but it is a great school. My brother goes there, and he absolutely bleeds maroon! All of the students I’ve met from there adore it and wouldn’t go anywhere else. The school doesn’t accept just everyone, so congrats on getting in! If you decide to go, you might just find that you love it like they do!

Thanks for the responses, keep them comming!

I would try out the school, and try for a 4.0 anyways  And then at the end of Freshmen year, if you completely hate if there, apply for a transfer.

Also, can you post your stats? A lot of the school you applied to I’m planning on applying to in the fall. Especially CM. :)

I had decent stats, 32 ACT w/ all preap/ap courses since 6th grade, AP scholar, and all the other academic merits.

However, I my extracurriculars were actually extremely impressive. I began my own company at age 17 and am still running it, been self employed since 11, leader for Junior Achievement, FBLA, Inventors and Business association – Everything that pointed to a business degree.

I obviously applied to Tepper for CMU, but their acceptance rate was ~9% this year. My grades were the only thing holding me back :(

I don’t know bro, I’d still have faith in acceptances from Emory or Notre Dame (or both).

Yeah, the pain is killing me ;s

Anybody else want to put in their opinions?

Don’t stress out too much until you get all of your decisions and financial aid offers in. Make whatever choice that seems to make sense from there.

Texas A&M certainly is not a bad option for you either. Doing well in undergraduate is the most important thing. Also, getting a 4.0 or the like is usually easier said than done in college. I don’t know how strictly Texas A&M grades or if the business department has a curve, but it usually takes a lot of work to even have a chance to maintain a pretty good GPA.

I feel like you really have a shot at Emory. You should wait until the decisions are out from all the colleges.

Yeah, I think the rest of the schools come out tomorrow at 5 eastern. So nervous! D;
