Come December, will I be crying with elation or sorrow?

Lol, it’s okay, guys. digg1 has made negative comments on all of the recent Rice chances threads, so…

I guess we’ll see what happens in December!

I wonder if digg1 is a Rice student…maybe a Rice reject? shrug

I will agree with digg1’s reasons but not his conclusion. The GPA and SAT is a bit weak, but that will only hurt so much. Your EC’s (whcih looks strong and numerous) and you rec letters and essays will contribute a lot.

So, Id say you have a pretty good shot at it. Keep us posted

I am going to take a crack at this. I don’t know the GPA particulars of several “good” high schools around Houston, perhaps like 'kaid. So I’m going on TheRisenLilith’s assessment that a 3.4 is the top 25% in a “crazy competitive” school. In fiercely competitive private schools, that top 25% might roughly equal the top 4% - 5% (e.g. no. of Merit Commended+Finalists) of a decent public high school. Very competitive universities assess transcripts with their own scoring based on the challenge of the student’s curriculum (e.g. AP classes, calc, physics) and previous school information.

Rice will have its own view of a nearby school’s grading and recommendations, especially for the competitive private schools. With scores at the median of entering Rice freshmen, 'Lilith probably has a decent shot at Rice after ED and RD.

“after ED and RD”
Are we hinting at a waitlist?

Oh, no, I didn’t even think about that. I had always imagined myself getting accepted or rejected, but not waitlisted/deferred? Crap…that would mean more months of waiting…

well, i dont think u get waitlisted on ED. You cann get deferred to RD.. and its always possible. Way better than rejected

I applied Interim Decision (which still existed way back when), got deferred to Regular Decision, got waitlisted, and eventually got in.

All the while I was waitlisted at three of my top four schools (including Rice) and rejected from the other.

And I wouldn’t have traded that experience for anything. I appreciate Rice so much more since I almost didn’t get in. Also, I got a phone call instead of a letter, which was really neat.

So there is absolutely no reason for you to agonize. You WILL get in to a good school, regardless of whether that school is Rice. In the meantime, enjoy your senior year and stop whining about how stressed you are on an internet message board.

lol, good advice

I agree. :)
