prospective transfer student........i wanted to know how much you guys pay for tuition?......plus housing........per semester

any help?.......i looked on the website and it looks cheaper compared to the other ivy league schools......help please......

it's not cheaper

yeah, i doubt it would be cheaper. plus, it's new york, so the cost of living is considerably higher.

Ok.........

My student expenses, as stated by my financial aid package for 2005-2006, are:

Tuition and Fees: $33,846
Room & Board: $9,338
Books / Other: $3,560
Travel: $600

TOTAL: $47,344

DAMN......thats a lot.......the highest i have encountered thus far........are they generous with financial aid?

and how where YOU able to defray the expenses?.......did you get scholarships,grants,etc?......

this may be a stupid question, but are transfer expenses different than an incoming fresh.? because my financial package was more than yoshi's.

interesting......what was your financial package like?........

I'm a continuing student, and my financial aid package was extremely generous (this year more than last). With the exception of perhaps an orientation fee, transfer expenses are the same as continuing students', but financial aid packages may be different (Columbia makes no guarantee that a transfer admit's full need will be met). My total cost of attendance (not including financial aid) came to $44,644.

blah1111 you mind sharing what your package was like?.........its difficult enough trying to transfer to columbia and if they arent very generous with aid, it just makes things horrible.......

I wonder why his books/other is more than mine. . . that mysterious "other" is just weird

lol, jono, I know!

My financial aid package was EXTREMELY generous, with an enormous grant and no loans, although I've heard from others that theirs weren't so generous (they included a fair share of loans). Some people on CC went to a different school due to financial reasons, but don't let that discourage you from applying!

are you a resident of new york?.......maybe that had an effect......

No...I came from New Mexico.

I received a pretty hefty grant with work-study and subsidized loans (no interest is accrued while you're in college), which I don't mind at all. In fact, I explained my financial situation to finaid and they gave me MORE loans and reduced my bill, which was really nice. My family contribution for first semester is very low, but I'm not sure how much this helps you because you're both a transfer candidate and probably in a different financial status.
