Wow, its only 1.5 weeks away. Im getting really nervous... I was just wondering what other people did to prepare for the test, and if anyone knows what the curve has been in the past. I am beginning to get really worried because my dictation skills arent exactly the best...

If your composition and multiple choice skills are excellent, you can compensate for a poor diction/singing/listening ability. I had a 5-composition and 2-aural scores... Those gave me a 4 overall...

Thanks, that makes me feel so much better! I can part write and all, and sing in a major key(stupid diminished fifth in minor...). But still, my dictation skills are atrocious, except for rhythm in melodic, that comes out okay. otherwise...

I'm really worried... my class hasn't really done anything... new teacher. She's great and all, but she hasn't necessarily prepared my class for the AP Music Theory Exam.

Man, thank God there are others out there! I was starting to think that it was only like...my school that did this stupid test! I can't find any kind of refview, and I really want to work on the composition thing at the end. I'm doing ok, but I just want to practice a bit..nothing does it though. Anyone have any kind of book or website? At all? PLEASE?

I didn't use review last year... I was pretty sure that I bombed the MC section (I think i guessed on a lot of questions) but ended up with a 3. My 4 in the aural section gave me a 4 overall. Just relax and you'll be fine. Oh, and a word to the wise... the sight singing pieces are not in a particular order. For some reason, I thought that the first one was always major and the second one minor (stupid, right?).

There are some practice free response questions there...

this class is so freakn hard. ive been playing an instrument for 13 years, but no CM Theory.. so im just like AHHH!!! no perfect pitch, and etc. good luck =_=

I took this exam last year. I got a 5 on the non-aural part (which was easy, so I think I pretty much aced that part) and a 4 on the aural part, which gave me a solid 5 overall.

I didn't really do any last minute reviewing. I tried to work on dictation maybe a month before? I downloaded a program or did some work online to practice dictating. I somewhat lucked out though as one of the melodic dictations was on violin (my main instrument) so that helped a bit.

I'd suggest just reviewing partwriting rules for last minute stuff.

4 on aural!?!?! You people are insane!! Ok, maybe not, but still thats really good!! galgrl, do you remember what you used to practice dictation? I have looked but I cant really find anything other than intervals and chords online or in programs... Programs that are free anyways...

Lol, aural is easy for me, since I'm in choir, and can hear individual pieces in chords.

It's the written portion of the test I'm honestly worried about. =

Today is the day folks. Good luck :).

What'd you guys think?

I think I got 66 of the Multiple choice right, I left 6 blank, and was confident on everything else. Melodic dictation I thought was pretty hard... I think I'll get 1/4 of the total credit for those if I'm lucky. Harmonic dictation was really easy... I think I got anywhere between 2/3 to 3/4 of the credit on those. Partwriting was easy... I did bad on sight singing. I have a low range and I had to transpose things way down and I just kind of sucked at it. Wonder what I'll get...

The second sight singing was insanely hard.

And the first dictation... bah, stupid instrument.

lol, I mainly looked online for "harmonic/melodic dictation exercises" . . . though since the test was today, I'm assuming this is late info, sorry

I'm not a choir person, I can't really sing when anyone is listening :p, but I still did fine on the aural. Actually, my class period had a bunch of choir kids that had huge trouble with the composition part, because they didn't know basic stuff like key signatures . . . .

Oh, and I'm pretty sure I closed to bomb sight singing last year . . . I started on an F (which was what it started on) and I think I ended on like an A . . . even though the piece ended on an F . . . and well I got a 4 on aural, so I guess they didn't weight it to much! lol.

Anyways, hope you all did well :)

What was with that instrument for the dictation? I swear, that thing sounded like a foghorn. Thanks for responding anyway, galgrl! You're story gives me hope! I dont know why, but i feel as though everyone is so great at Mt, and then i suck... Imagination?? Probably not...

LOL, i know, seriously. its some band instrument; i dont even know what the difference in sound is between a trombone and a horn right now (honestly. i could figure it out within an hour, but i dont know now).

Well, I think for me theory wasn't that hard, just because I've done theory books throughout the whole time I played piano (about 7 years).

And I believe they tell you the instrument that dictation was on. Last year, it said that the dictation will be played on ______. But a foghorn? lol

i put Horn (french horn). I was tempted to put down basson, however.
Well, I thought the exam was ridiculously hard. Well, probably not that much, but it sucked. I was not prepared at all! Btw, since when were the melodic and harmonic dictations so FAST? my oh my.
I felt as if I got a 2, I'm pretty sure I got a 3, and i'm hoping for a 4. Yeah...

yeah, they were so *** damn fast. seriously, i barely had time to write down all the 8ths and 16th notes.
