Come with me to the UCLA orientation

I have no one to go with

~!!!!!!@#$@!$%

you'll meet tons of people. go by yourself and leave with new friends.

good idea

dflkasfjabdsjfbasjdkfsfgkndfg

lol - i went by myself and made no friends. :(

where're you coming from?

lol One of my friends might go with me, but I'm not exactly the type of person who is gonna go up to some random person and start talking to them so I don't think I am going to be making any new friends that day either. I'll be the chick holding up the sign that says "collegeconfidential.com loners" lol ;)

dude, after I found out that we don't even sign up for our classes I'm not sure I even want to go to orientation.

You guys dont sign up at orientation? how odd?

That was the only reason i went, i drove from San Diego at freaking 430AM to get there by 7Am

They gave us a big speech, then put us into groups within our departments...... it was all freakin day and the only useful thing was registration........... ohh and your ID.

Well I don't know for sure. I thought we did get to sign up for our classes at orientation because that's what it said on the website, but then many people told me that you sign up for your classes online through URSA and not through orientation. But who knows? You actually went there so you would know better than anybody. :) btw...how long did your actual orientation session last? It wasn't ALL day long was it?

You do sign up through URSA but AT orientation.

This was two years ago so i dont know if orientation is still the same. But yah it was from like 8am to 4-5 pm

They feed you and stuff and you are like in groups with people similar to your major.

The person that is your group leader will be a UCLA student of a major in your department, you sign up for classes in their room. We drew cards for who would use the PC first.

They give you some time on your own to use the Covel Commons computers and stuff to figure out your schedule.

YOu get some time with your department advisor for advising. And the advisor will talk to your group about general department stuff.

I was in need of getting a specific schedule - there was only 1 section of each class that i could take b/c i had to work, so i remeber instead calling my husband and having him log onto ursa right away so he could sign me up because there was only 1-5 seats left in each of those classes. BUT - that was totally unecessary as the enrollment cap kept going up and up and up and up every time i checked after that. It was like 80 and at the end most of my classes had about 200.
hmmm i am thinking what else happenend... it was really f-ing annoying walking from like Royce up to Rieber and up those massive stairs BLAH.

oh really? hmm, so maybe we still do sign up at orientation. At least it's worth going to now. lol

That's not so bad if it ends before 5 or so b/c their website states that it literally lasts until 9 p.m. which sounded outrageously long. Glad to hear it's not as bad as I thought.

I have been checking the UCLA website, but it does not seem like they have posted their schedule of classes yet for fall 2008. I pretty much already know what courses I need to take to fulfill my major reqs so it shouldn't be too bad.

If you wanna minor or change your major or double major, can you do that at orientation?

Oh yea and btw, I wanna set up my own ed plan for the following semester(s), how do I figure out what classes are required for our junior and senior year??

go to your major webpage, it will let you know what type of courses and how many you need to complete in order to declare yourself as "x" major.

I'm not sure if you can declare a second major or minor at orientation, but it's worth a shot. I'm sure there will be tons of people who can help assist you with it.

Second, just go to the webpage of your major and it will give you a list of courses you must complete (lower and upper division) in order to complete the reqs for that major. Then if you look up those specific courses in the course catalog, it will tell you how many units each class is worth. Add those together and then you will see how many additional classes you must take in order to satisfy the 180 requirement. :)

no you can not declare a second major- you need to have 2 upper divisions done form each major before you can double major and all the preqs for both majors and you have to go to both departments advisors and obtains a mock Degree progress report for that major and work out how you will fit your classes in the upcoming quarters then take that to Murphy to your counseling department .

You could declare a minor-- but maybe not-- for one there is not a lot of free time, they pretty much plan out most of your day and you would have to go to that department and they require some advising usually and some minors, like accounting, require you to do a lot of courses and spend a quarter at UCLA first.

Honestly there is NO reason to worry about declaring a minor or changing majors or any of that at orientation- You can do that first quarter

Plus what major do you want to change to ?
