I don’t know, this is totally new. I think most students will spend as little time as possible on it. Since there is no effect on your GPA, there is no penalty. If you could get into one of the top 5, that would be something but to get a whole group excited and involved would be a miracle.
My son is a rising Senior and UTD is on his top three list. In fact, we are doing a campus visit tomorrow and I don’t like this at all from what I see. Sounds like they are looking to get some sort of data/research by using kids. They must do this project as an incoming Freshman and then again Junior year so they can compare? I guess? What a waste of their time so UTD can get an idea of how students have improved communicating via email from Freshman year to Junior year…I guess?
Not sure how you can manage this as students leave school, change majors, transfer etc.
I also see it as very bad timing. As a student is getting their feet on the ground as a new college Freshman. New environment, living away from home, navigating college coursework and on top of that a busy work “project”.
I don’t know all the details and maybe I would like it better if/when I did. But just on the surface I think it is a weird and horrible idea.
I wonder if UTA is looking to do the same thing. I hope not, as they are also on his list.
I think this is ridiculous and a waste of time. Also I think this will definitely deter students from enrolling at UT Dallas … I know I wouldn’t want to do this project over the summer. I would rather relax or do an interesting internship in my desired field
