After this semester, I will have exactly 2 classes to take then I will get my degree. I'm graduating from a 2 year community college with an associates and moving onto a 4 year college. The problem is, I cannot start in the 4 year college until fall semester which means it will be in fall 2011. I'm taking my last 2 classes during my winter semester which will end by February, after that I will have nothing to do for about 6 months until september. I'm not even sure if I can get a job at this time.. I have no work experience. I was thinking about splitting my 2 classes by taking one in the winter and another one during the spring semester. My parents are willing to pay for my spring class because I don't get enough fasfa but it will be so boring to go to school for just one class... I was thinking about volunteering if I can't find a job. I really don't wanna be stuck home for 6 months with nothing to do. What should I do in this position???

This is a good time for you to get some work experience and earn some money.

You could get a job or internship or take more classes at a local 4 year or classes for fun at your college.

I would wonder if spreading the last two courses out like that might make your transfer university raise an eyebrow about wth you’re doing. I think it would be better to make productive use of that time rather than spin your wheels. There is no reason why you can’t search for a job. If you can’t find one, you can volunteer. I didn’t start working until I was 18 and I ended up leaving that job three months in because my boss was doing extremely unethical crap I couldn’t stand behind, and then I couldn’t find another job-- so I did volunteer work to put SOMETHING on my resume, which led to another job, and then another. There is NO reason to sit around for 6 months doing nothing. There is always something you could be doing.

You can get some sort of crappy job for those 6 months, and as someone that’s done hiring for a company trust me, you’re much better off with experience from a crappy job than no experience.

Thanks, I will look into any available jobs. I’ve been turned down by local pharmacies because I have no prior work experience =/

Higoodbye, what do you want to major in or do in life? I suggest either trying to find a job relating to that field, or if they will not “pay” because your experience, try to volunteer.

Job/internship. Other ideas for a semester off:

AmeriCorps

other volunteer programs I don’t know about?

study abroad

internship programs with major corporations that have special semester-long internship programs or summer programs

I wanna major in IT. I’m ending with an associates in liberal arts… I was very confused when choosing my major during my first and second year. So I decided to finish with my liberal arts then move onto IT… I can’t find any internship that I’m qualified for
