Coming for Preview- 'Must See Things' Suggestions

My son is visiting FSU one last time this weekend before making a final decision between FSU & UF. We have a pretty comprehensive list of places to visit on campus, but when we were there last summer we really didn't see the areas off campus that the students spend time. Places for shopping, eating, etc.

Do any of you veterans have suggestions on places to see that will give him more of a feel for the entire student experience?

I don’t know how flexible your schedule is but I would suggest going to tallahassee next weekend not this one.

We are scheduled for this Friday’s Preview and there is a Honor’s Open House Thursday evening.

We attended both the Honors Reception and Preview last year when my daughter was trying to make her decision between FSU and UF. It was a really good experience for her, and she found that she fit in very well and it helped her to finally decide to attend FSU. I don’t have any suggestions for you in Tallahassee (I’ll leave that to the students), but I just wanted to encourage you that I think you will find your visit this weekend to be very worthwhile.

Ctauber, here is an older thread containing a few of the more interesting things to do and see while visiting Florida State and Tallahassee:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/florida-state-university/1072312-please-help-ideas-fsu-visit.html

By all means visit the departments that interest your son and speak with the faculty.

That is a VERY informative thread! I can use that one myself.

When I visited FSU for preview with my daughter, I stayed right around the campus and never found out about the whole shopping area of town until around 4 months into her term. After seeing the mall and surrounding restaurants, amenities, etc., I was MUCH more comfortable with Tallahassee.

I would go to Momo’s if you want pizza or Gordo’s if you want cuban/mexican. Both are really great college town restaurants geared toward the students.

My DS, my wife and myself returned home from the final Preview session last night. It was well presented and so much more in depth than our visit and tour last summer. We were also able to attend an Honors open house Thursday evening and spent an hour talking one on one to current students in the program.

We were very pleased with how friendly and helpful everyone at the school were. Administrators, professors, students, staff, etc. collectively represented their school in the best possible light. While touring dorms, one young man stopped us on our way out and asked if we’d like to see his room. He spent 20 minutes telling us all we could want to know and patiently answering all of our questions.

We ate at Momo’s & Mr. Roboto’s. Both were very representative of the college atmosphere. We also attended the FSU-UNC baseball game and the FSU Invitational track & field meet.

All in all a great trip and visit to a school that I would now have no reservations sending my son to.

Glad you had a good visit. :)

glad you enjoyed your visit. I finally did a tour this past weekend and I really enjoyed it

I think the circus is having a show… eat at Momo’s!
